Good news for lease customers looking for a sporty, plug-in hybrid Vauxhall with tons of practicality - because the new Astra Sports Tourer GSe is now available.
That ‘GSe’ stands for ‘Grand Sport Electric’, and it refers to Vauxhall’s new electrified performance division.
The Astra GSe hatchback launched earlier this year, and you can lease one with Select from around £569 per month*.
But now the estate version - the Astra Sports Tourer GSe - is also available to lease and there are plenty of reasons to want one. Top of that list might be the fact that the estate GSe has a 516 litre boot compared with the 352 litres you get with the Astra GSe hatch.
A plug-in hybrid powertrain unlocks power of 225 PS and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 7.5 seconds.
That’s slower to shift than rivals like the Ford Focus Estate ST or the Volkswagen Golf Estate R.
But neither of those two vehicles have what the Astra Sports Tourer GSe has - and that’s the ability to travel for up to 39 miles using electricity alone! One close rival to the Astra GSe estate is the Cupra Leon Estate 'eHybrid' plug in hybrid, which has a range of up to 37 miles and which can be leased with Select from £444 per month*.
The Astra Sports Tourer GSe also makes for a decent choice as a company car for business lease customers, as it’s eligible for a Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax rate of just 12%.
Besides the unique powertrain, the Astra Sports Tourer GSe also benefits from improved suspension and handling compared with the regular Astra estate, and it also sits 10mm lower than its less sporty sibling.
One of the people in white coast at Vauxhall GSe HQ tells us: “Vauxhall engineers have revised the suspension onboard the Astra Sports Tourer GSe for sharper handling, fitting it with 11 per cent stiffer springs and Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology by specialists KONI. The technology adjusts the damping characteristics at high frequencies (to control the suspension) and low frequencies (focusing on the body) to provide a smooth and balanced ride. As part of the performance upgrades, Vauxhall has also recalibrated the Astra Sports Tourer GSe’s steering for a sportier feel and to deliver purer feedback. Steering response has been increased by 9 per cent over standard models, with the response rate better at all wheel angles. This also improves the on-centre feel and helps deliver better feedback at speed.”
Adaptive LED headlights are standard, as are Alcantara front sports seats, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with head-up display, and wireless phone charging.
Astra Sports Tourer GSe models also get ‘Forward Collision Alert’ and ‘Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection’, as well as drowsiness detection, lane departure warning and traffic sign assistant.
