The electric Kia EV6 has taken home the coveted ‘New Car of the Year’ prize at this year’s AutoTrader New Car Awards 2023.
The awards themselves are a good snapshot of the UK motoring landscape, as they’re voted for by some 220,000 motorists - not a panel of judges.
The EV6 out-muscled the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Ford Mustang MACH-E to grab the main silverware.
And AutoTrader says the sleek EV has that winning mix of ‘style, practicality, affordability, performance’.
A spokesperson adds: “Chosen by owners and, therefore, arguably the most prestigious prize going for any manufacturer, the EV6 is a deserving winner of Auto Trader New Car of the Year 2023 given its high scoring across the board. You praised its versatility, comfort, quality and the advanced technology while the range of over 300 miles and a driving experience as sharp as the looks completes the package. On top of all this, Kia ensures peace of mind with its strong reliability record and seven-year warranty. You really can’t go wrong.”

The award for ‘Best Value New Car’ went to the humble Dacia Sandero Stepway (below), with voters bowled-over by just how much kit you get as standard.
An AutoTrader spokesperson says: “Even a top spec model with an automatic gearbox comes in at under £20,000 and includes features like keyless entry, navigation, cruise control and parking sensors. The interior has a real high-quality feel, too. Owners absolutely love it, praising it across the board for its comfort, equipment, and SUV-style practicality. Ultimately, it boils down to one thing, best summarised by one owner thus, “It looks like an SUV, behaves like an SUV, has most of the optional extras of an SUV and costs half of the price of an SUV.”
Dacia was also named ‘Best Value Brand’ overall.

Tesla scooped three gongs - with the Model Y being named ‘Best Car for Families’, the Model 3 awarded ‘Best Car for Long Distances’, Tesla in general named ‘Car Brand with the Best Tech’.

The raucous, 5.0 litre V8-engined Ford Mustang (above) was ‘Most Fun to Drive’, the Toyota RAV4 is the ‘Best Car for Dog Owners’, and the Peugeot 5008 was voted the ‘Best Seven Seater’.
Meanwhile the brilliant and retro-modern Hyundai IONIQ 5 (below) was awarded ‘Most Loved Car’ by respondents to the survey.
