New NIO EL6 tipped for UK debut

China’s luxury electric vehicle manufacturer NIO has unveiled its new EL6 SUV - and it could be navigating its way to the UK.

NIO, masterminded by billionaire entrepreneur William Li, specialises in high-end EVs.

The firm recently confirmed its cars would soon be arriving in Britain, with NIO having already entered other European markets.

While NIO hasn’t confirmed which precise models will be heading to Blighty, one of the cars to keep an eye on is the ET7 saloon (below), which is a Tesla Model S rival.

And this new EL6 could also soon be arriving on UK roads, where it would go up against electric German stalwarts like the Audi Q8 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

The NIO EL6 has a dual-motor, all-wheel drive set-up as standard as well as a total power output of 489 PS and 700 Nm of torque.

That’s enough oomph to see the EL6 accelerating from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds - which is quicker than even the most rapid version of the Audi Q8 e-tron.

A 70 kWh battery gives the EL6 a range of around 304 miles, which isn’t up there with the best electric SUVs, but which is more than you get with the entry-level BMW iX.

The EL6 should have impeccable road manners, too, thanks to an Intelligent Chassis Controller (ICC) system that works with the car’s Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system to make up to 500 damping adjustments per second, ironing out even the lumpiest bumps in the road.

It’ll have a bank of danger-detecting LiDAR sensors to keep you safe on the road while adding sophisticated semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

Meanwhile NIO has also promised one of the most sumptuous cabins in the class.

The EL6 will get special acoustic fabric on the speakers to enhance the audio quality from the sound system, a large openable sunroof, ‘Lounge Seats’ with 22-way adjustment and massage function, as well as a cavernous 668 litre boot.

Watch this space for further NIO updates.

The representative dealing with my request was great. The Select Leasing portal needs some attention as not responsive enough and lots of little things that could do with changing. If you want to know more please contact me
