Bentley is celebrating 20 years of its all-conquering Continental GT - and the British firm has produced a one-off model to mark the occasion.
It’s fair to say that the Continental GT - first launched in 2003 as the first model for new Bentley owners the VW Group - has been an undisputed smash hit.
Bentley describes it as the ‘quintessential grand tourer’, a car that somehow combines supercar performance with stately craftsmanship.
Back in 2003, the Continental GT was the fastest genuine four seat coupe in the world, blasting from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds and then on to a top speed of 190 mph.
It quickly became the vehicle of choice for celebs and footballers - yep, David Beckham had one.
Another recent memorable outing for the coupe came in TV’s The Grand Tour, when host Jeremy Clarkson pitted a heavily modified one against the mud-drenched roads of Madagascar (below).
Now in its third generation, the Continental GT is still as seductive as ever and a massive part of the allure is the stonking 6.0 litre twin turbo W12 engine sitting under the stretched bonnet of the GT Speed and the GT Mulliner.
Bentley says its ceasing production of that W12 in April 2024 as it moves to cleaner, greener powertrains - so our advice would be to get in there now if you want one!
For the time being, and to celebrate the Continental GT’s 20th, Bentley is showing off a one-of-a-kind GT S.
It gets commemorative badging, inlays and design motifs and is finished in a ‘strikingly sinister’ Magnetic dark grey metallic paint job with black 22 inch alloys.
A stunning black and red interior completes the look.
The regular Continental GT S is just as attractive, too. It’s powered by a 4.0 litre V8 chucking out power of 550 PS and 770 Nm of torque, which means the big bruiser can still sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
