- Audi Q4 e-tron gains ‘40’ variant
- New entry-level model will replace the ‘35’ powertrain
- 63 kWh battery means 258-mile range
- Priced from £46,600
Audi has revealed a new entry-level ‘40’ variant of its all-conquering Q4 e-tron, which gets a 258-mile range and an ‘extensive’ list of standard equipment.
The Q4 e-tron is Audi’s fully-electric family car, a rival to the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4 and which you can lease as both an SUV or ‘Sportback’ SUV-coupe.
The new ‘40’ powertrain will be introduced next month (for both the SUV and the Sportback) and it’ll ultimately replace the outgoing ‘35’ powertrain.
So, what’s new?
The Audi Q4 e-tron ‘35’ (the one being replaced) makes use of a 55 kWh battery and gets a range of around 220 miles between charges.
The new ‘40’ variants, however, get a larger 62 kWh battery which ups the range to a max of 258 miles for the Sportback.
Power and performance is improved, too, with the Audi Q4 e-tron 40 offering 204 PS (up on the 35’s 170 PS) and capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 8.1 seconds.
Rapid DC charging at up to 165 kW can take the energy in the battery from 10-80% in just 24 minutes and you can add up to 93 miles of range in around 24 minutes.
The 40 powertrain is available on all three trim levels - Sport, S Line and Black Edition. Automatic battery-preconditioning and an intelligent route planner is a given.
And base models come loaded with a 10.1-inch ‘MMI navigation plus’ touchscreen, the fully-connected ‘Audi connect navigation & infotainment’ system which puts a multitude of apps at your fingertips, and a 10.25-inch digital cockpit.
Prices begin at £46,600 for the Q4 e-tron SUV, £48,100 for the Q4 e-tron Sportback, and they’ll be available to lease starting March 13.
If the Audi Q4 e-tron doesn’t float your boat, look at leasing alternatives like the Skoda Enyaq, Volvo EX40 and the BMW iX2.
