- New entry-level Audi A6 e-tron launched
- Single motor RWD models with 83 kWh battery
- Provides a range of up to 382 miles
- Latest variant shaves seven grand off asking price
Audi has lowered the price of its fully-electric A6 e-tron by introducing a new entry-level model.
Up until now, both the A6 Avant e-tron and the A6 Sportback e-tron have been underpinned by a large 100 kWh battery while lease customers enjoyed power of at least 380 PS.
The German manufacturer has now decided to launch a smaller and cheaper 83 kWh battery that delivers a maximum of 326 PS.
It gives the A6 Sportback e-tron and A6 Avant e-tron range of up to 382 miles and 361 miles respectively - down on the previous minimum of around 430 miles but still decent.
The new unit makes the A6 e-tron more affordable, shaving around £7,000 off the asking price to buy outright while the price drop should also be reflected in your monthly leasing costs.
The smaller 83 kWh battery means you have to compromise slightly in terms of acceleration, but not by much, with the new cut-price models still capable of sprinting from 0-62 mph in 6.0 seconds flat when you engage the standard-fit launch control.
You also still get 800-volt electrical architecture and 225 kW charging which can take the energy from 10-80% in just 21 minutes.
Besides the new basic model, Audi has also launched an all-wheel drive ‘quattro’ A6 e-tron which sits between the existing ‘Performance’ and range-topping ‘S6’ variants.
Here you get a 100 kWh battery, power of 462 PS, and a range of up to 438 miles between charges. In both ‘Avant’ and ‘Sportback’ body styles, 0-62mph takes just 4.7 seconds, or 4.5 seconds with the help of launch control. Top speed is 130 mph.
There’s also a higher 270 kW charging capacity which can restore enough power to cover up to 192 miles in just 10 minutes.
The new Audi A6 Sportback e-tron in entry-level ‘Sport’ trim begins at £62,500 while the A6 Sportback e-tron quattro at the ‘Sport’ grade starts at £75,000.
Alternatives to an Audi A6 e-tron lease include the BMW i5, Volkswagen ID.7, and cheaper versions of the Porsche Taycan.
