- Abarth 600e is the most powerful Abarth ever
- Gets 280 hp and 207-mile range
- Order books open mid-November
- Rivals include Alfa Romeo Junior and CUPRA Born
Abarth is readying to launch the hot new 600e - the most powerful Abarth ever and a car that promises added spice from your daily driver.
The Abarth 600e is the evil sibling to the much more mild-mannered Fiat 600e - with Fiat and Abarth having long enjoyed a symbiotic relationship.
Both the Fiat 600e and the Abarth 600e make use of a 54 kWh battery. But while the Fiat makes do with power of 154 hp, the Abarth ups that to a max 280 hp and 345 Nm of torque, courtesy of a 207 kW e-motor that leans on Formula E know-how.
A lesser-powered Abarth 600e will also be available, with 240 hp.
The most potent ‘Scorpionissima’ 280 hp Abarth 600e can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds and then on to a top speed of 124 mph.
How does that stack up against rivals? Well, the most powerful ‘VZ’ iteration of the CUPRA Born can sprint from 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds while the (frankly bonkers) MG4 EV XPower will hit 62 mph from a standstill in 3.8 seconds. The Alfa Romeo Junior is also well worth a look.
The 600e’s speed is just half the story.
When order books open mid-November, it’ll come with a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential, sport brakes, racing-derived Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres, and a battery cooling system that improves performance.
There’s also a dedicated ‘Scorpion Track’ mode, which sharpens the acceleration, steering and Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) for some grin-inducing antics on the circuit.
The Abarth 600e certainly looks the part, coming with a muscular exterior, 20-inch alloys and an aggressive rear spoiler.
Is there a fly in the ointment? Potentially, as the Scorpion brand 600e’s max range is 207 miles, which is less than some competitors but probably still ample for most.
Meanwhile there are enough creature comforts to ensure the Abarth 600e can make the transition from the track to the school run with minimal fuss. Those features include an Alcantara steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
There are two versions to lease - the standard Abarth 600e Turismo and the 600e Scorpionissima.
The Scorpionissima model gets the max power of 280 hp as well as extras like heated Sabelt seats in the front, velour floor mats, privacy glass, a rear-view camera, wireless charging, a hands-free power liftgate, and a sound generator.
The Abarth 600e is priced from £36,975 to purchase outright and leasing costs will be revealed shortly.
