- New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante revealed
- World’s fastest, most powerful front-engine convertible
- 5.2-litre V12 engine develops 835 PS
- Total Vanquish production limited to under 1,000
Aston Martin has revealed its fastest, most powerful open-top series production car ever - the awesome new Vanquish Volante.
Rewind to last year, and the British manufacturer reinstated the Vanquish Coupe - complete with a thunderous 5.2-litre V12 engine - after a six year hiatus.
Now this jaw-dropping ‘Volante’ two-seat convertible variant has entered the limelight, and the roadster loses nothing on its fixed-roof sibling when it comes to performance.
It too features a 5.2-litre V12 developing 835 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds (just 0.1 seconds slower than the Vanquish Coupe). Top speed maxes out at 214 mph (the same as the Coupe).
The Vanquish convertible also arrives in time to celebrate 60 years of the ‘Volante’ name.
Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Hallmark, said: “For 60 years, Aston Martin Volantes have defined the art of elegant, sporting, open-top motoring. With its stunning looks and outstanding V12 engine producing more power than any other front-engine production car on sale, Vanquish Volante has taken this philosophy to an entirely new level. At Aston Martin we are proud to be doing such justice to our heritage while, as the unprecedented performance of the Vanquish Volante shows, keeping our eyes firmly focused on the future.”
Power is fed to the rear wheels with an eight-speed ZF gearbox located within the rear axle for optimal weight distribution and incorporates the same rear E-differential (E-diff) seen on Vanquish Coupe.
There are Bilstein DTX dampers, various drive modes including ‘GT’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport+’, and pre-defined ESP modes for maximum hoonability (On, Track, Off, Wet). Carbon ceramic brakes come as standard.
The lightweight K-fold roof can be opened in 14 seconds and closed in 16 seconds, and can be operated on the move while doing up to 31 mph. Aston Martin also reckons there’s a level of ‘thermal insulation’ in the roof that matches the Vanquish Coupe, which will also help to keep things quiet and serene in the cabin.
Speaking of which, the interior enjoys a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, a separate 10.25-inch digital cockpit, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and machine-knurled rotary dial surrounds.
As for the price, you can expect to shell-out around £360,000 to secure one, putting it in the same ball-park as the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider.
