Electric Abarth 500e gains premium sound system

Leasing the Abarth 500e just got more fun - because you can enjoy one with a premium sound system from JBL.

The Abarth 500e arrived on the leasing market this year and is available in two distinct forms - a regular hatchback or the 500e Cabrio, which has a sliding fabric roof.

And now Abarth has teamed up with Harman - parent company of JBL - to make the experience of driving one even more satisfying.

It comes as standard on all range-topping Turismo models, and is an option with the entry-level 500e.

JBL says the stereo ‘delivers powerful, pure sound with clean highs, roaring bass, and well-defined mids to satisfy all music fans who love to drive’.

You can expect high performance speakers, two tweeters, two midwoofers, two rear door full range speakers, a subwoofer in the boot, and an eight-channel amp.

The volume and sound spectrum automatically adjusts as the speed increases - which is particularly important if you’ve got the fabric roof open.

Meanwhile pricing has also been announced for the Abarth 500e.

The standard Abarth 500e costs from £34,195, while the Abarth 500e Turismo Cabrio weighs in at £41,195. For comparison purposes, the MINI Electric begins at £32,550 and can be leased from £397 per month. The Smart #1 is priced from £35,595 and should be available to lease this summer.

The Abarth 500e uses a 42 kWh battery which generates a range of up to 164 miles between charges and power of 155 PS, which is enough to see the battery-powered rascal sprint from 0-62mph in just 7.0 seconds.

There are three driving modes to enjoy - Turismo, Scorpion Street and Scorpion Track - which gives you the opportunity to put the sporty suspension to the test.

An Abarth spokesperson tells us:

“Turismo mode allows for smoother acceleration and uses less power for an efficient yet exciting driving experience. Scorpion Street mode offers top performance while maximising regenerative braking. Finally, the Scorpion Track mode is designed for those who are looking for maximum performance.”

The new Abarth 500e is equipped with an 85 kW fast-charging which lets you replenish the battery to 80% in around 35 minutes.

The interior gets a 10.25 infotainment touchscreen, swathes of Alcantara upholstery, and a sound generator that pumps the artificial noise of a petrol engine and exhaust note into the cabin.

The Abarth 500e will even play you a ‘rock guitar chord’ every time the car is turned on or off - which is a nice touch, and tells you everything you need to know about leasing one!
