Car-onation!

Looking to swerve the King’s Coronation? Here’s our pick of the royally-good motoring events to enjoy that weekend instead!

If you’re feeling slightly ‘meh’ about the Coronation of King Charles III, then you’re not alone.

A recent YouGov study asked 3,000 Brits how much they ‘cared’ about the upcoming ceremony - which takes place Saturday May 6th.

And the vast majority (64%) said they either cared ‘not at all’ or ‘not very much’ - with only 9% reporting they cared a ‘great deal’.

With that in mind, you might be thinking about pulling your own Harry and Meghan - and avoiding having to watch the shindig altogether.

The good news is that there’s tons of alternative bashes for the discerning petrolhead taking place all over the county during that bank holiday weekend.

And here’s a heads-up about what’s going on and where:

Saturday May 6th

Fast & Furious Car Show (Bristol)

This event is hosted by the GT Tuners Club and P1NK Supercars & Coffee , and it'll celebrate the launch of new Hollywood movie Fast X.

It promises more than 250 ‘jaw dropping show cars’, including plenty of supercar exotica, and under 12s go free.

Where: Easter Compton Farm Shop & Cafe in Bristol, just off the M5.

NSRA Nostalgia Nationals (Northamptonshire)

It’s time to get retro - because this event is all about speed machines from the past.

It’s a ‘run what you brung’ weekend, which means owners take to their track in their pride and joy vehicles.

The weekend-long get together is also backed by the international National Street Rod Association.

It focuses on pre-1973 ‘hot rods, kustoms, street machines’ as well as ‘traditional front-engine dragsters, competition altereds and early doorslammer race cars’. There’s live entertainment, too.

Where: Santa Pod Raceway, Wellingborough.

CarCalendar Presents Cars & Coffee (Surrey)

The CarCalendar website is a fantastic resource to find upcoming motoring meets.

And the good folks there also put on their own bashes - this one a ‘Cars & Coffee’ meet at the Mercedes-Benz World centre - located at the historic Brooklands race circuit in Surrey.

It’s free to attend, and it promises to showcase everything from classic cars to modern supercars

Where: Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge, Surrey.

Speed into Spring (Worcestershire)

The famous Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb is one of the oldest motorsport events on the face of the planet, having run continuously since 1905.

And Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May will see the opening weekend of the Midland Hill Climb Championship.

Kids under 16 go free, and day tickets cost from just 12 quid.

Where: Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, Worcestershire.

Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (Brands Hatch, Kent)

This two-dayer spans both the Saturday and the Sunday, and sees the British Touring Car Championship return to Brands Hatch for an early season fixture.

Besides all the BTCC goodness, you can also watch the MINI Challenge event, as well as the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain and the F4 Championship.

Under 13s go free.

Where: Brands Hatch, Colin Chapman Way, Kent.

Sunday 7th May

Sportscars in the Park (North Yorkshire)

This bash is held at stunning Newby Hall, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, and promises a gathering of more than 1,000 sports cars.

As well as the motors, you can enjoy lots of retail stalls while also taking a stroll through the 25 acres of award-winning gardens.

What’s more, you’re only a stone’s throw from the amazing driving roads of the Yorkshire Dales, if you fancy getting out for your own afternoon cruise.

Under 4s go free.

Where: Newby Hall, North Yorkshire.

South Wales Car Festival 2023 (Monmouthshire)

Head to Chepstow Racecourse for a ‘celebration of everything automobile, whether it’s super cars, classic cars, unique cars or anything in between’.

Besides the cars, there are bars, street food stalls, and live music.

And you’ll also be helping to raise money for a local hospice, St David’s Hospice Care, so it’s all for a very, very good cause.

A family ticket costs just £30, too.

Where: Chepstow Racecourse, Monmouthshire.

Gaydon Land Rover Show (Warwickshire)

This is a chance to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the iconic Land Rover marque at the British Motor Museum, Warwickshire.

It spans Sunday 7th and Monday 8th, and tickets also include entry to the Museum and Collections Centre – home to many more Land Rovers and over 400 historic British cars!

There’s live music, good food, and you can get involved in the Jaguar Land Rover Experience - where you can ride shotgun while an expert driver tackles off-road obstacles.

Under 5s go free.

Were: British Motor Museum, Warwickshire.

Best of British (Surrey)

The Brooklands Museum in Surrey will play host to a celebration of the very best in British motor manufacturing - and there will also be a big nod to the King’s Coronation, too.

You’ll see a ‘host of British built vehicles, from the pre-war Alvis, Norton and Sunbeam right through to the latest Jaguar models, as well as a full-range of MG models’.

There will also be a guest appearance from Paddington Bear himself!

Under 5s go free.

Where: Brooklands Museum, Surrey.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
