Maxus has revealed its fourth electric van, the eDeliver 5, which sits between the compact eDeliver 3 and mid-sized eDeliver 7 vans, with the large eDeliver 9 rounding out the range.
Maxus hasn’t pulled its punches with pitching where they see the eDeliver 5 fitting into the electric van landscape.
Even the pre-reveal slogan, “The BUZZ is great, but it’s time to DELIVER”, suggests that Maxus has a primary target customer in mind, one that might opt for a more stylish eLCV over something that's purely practical. There’s more than a hint of the Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo about the eDeliver 5, too.
Under the skin, there’s a 163hp electric motor that develops 240Nm of torque, with a 64kWh battery pack providing the energy. According to WLTP testing, the eDeliver 5 is expected to provide a range of up to 208 miles and promises up to 300 miles in urban conditions.
The van measures 4,800mm in length, has a width of 1,874mm, and has two different roof heights available: 1,960 or 2,180mm. The lower of the two means that the eDeliver 5 can access most car parks or height-restricted areas, but still has room to accommodate 6.6m3 of cargo. The high roof model sees this increase to 7.6m3. Both models have a maximum payload limit of 1,200kg and a towing capacity of 1,500kg.
The dimensions are shorter and narrower than those of a Ford Transit Custom, yet the eDeliver 5 has a higher cargo volume and a payload limit comparable with some of the Transit Custom range. The ID Buzz pales in comparison, with the eDeliver 5 offering almost twice as much cargo volume and payload capacity.
There’s good access to the load box, with sliding doors to each side and twin barn-style doors to the rear. Once in the cargo space, loads can be easily secured with lashing hooks accessible to each side.
The cabin might be fairly minimalist, but it’s well equipped. There’s a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, with access to both Apple CarPaly and Android Auto, as well as air conditioning, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, and 360-degree cameras for easy manoeuvrability.
Retail buyers will face a price tag from £34,000 plus VAT, with first deliveries expected in August.
Mark Barrett, managing director of group franchises at Harris Group:
"It’s been eight years since the debut of our first all-electric commercial vehicle, the EV80, at the CV Show, marking a remarkable journey of progress and innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of electric vehicles. As a young brand, Maxus has swiftly emerged as a trailblazer in the electric vehicle sector. And while we may be perceived as disruptors, our commitment to enhancing EV technology remains steadfast.
“Since 2016, we have introduced ten superb commercial and passenger vehicles to the UK market, eight of which are fully electric. Our latest products are yet another example of our e-vehicle market leadership and our unmatched ambition to continually build on our range.”
