Ineos Grenadier Commercial is the VAT qualifying 4x4 we always wanted

When the Ineos Grenadier was first unveiled, it looked like a vehicle that would satisfy both leisure and commercial buyers, with its off-road capabilities fused with usable style.

However, the Utility Wagon was a frustration to commercial buyers as they couldn’t automatically reclaim the VAT element of their purchase.

That issue has finally been resolved, thanks to the launch of the Grenadier Commercial. This customised version of the 4x4 means that owners now qualify to reclaim the VAT and receive lower benefit-in-kind tax rates.

The Grenadier Commercial will replace the two-seat version of the Utility Wagon and has undergone a few changes to ensure it qualifies as a commercial vehicle. Gone are the rear windows, replaced with aluminium panels, and the windows in the rear passenger doors and the twin windows in the split rear cargo doors have now been blacked out. The mounting points that would have secured the second row of seats have been permanently disabled, so it can’t be converted back to a passenger vehicle.

A flat floor spanning the cargo area has been added, with a full-height floor-to-roof barrier fitted behind the front seats. This allows a 1,200mm by 800mm Euro pallet to be transported safely. The cargo space can carry more than 2,000 litres of cargo when fully loaded.

Power delivery for the Grenadier Commercial is the same as that for the Utility Wagon, which is provided by a BMW 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol or diesel engine, giving the 4x4 a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes. The box-section ladder frame chassis has been retained, as well as the heavy-duty solid beam axles, two-speed transfer case, and up to three locking differentials.

George Ratcliffe, commercial director at Ineos Automotive:
“Customers in the UK have been asking for this addition to our model line-up since we launched in 2022, so we’re pleased to make this available so quickly. The versatility of the Grenadier platform allows this level of modification without any compromise to the driving dynamics or off-road capabilities.”

The Ineos Grenadier will continue to be built at the manufacturer's Hambach facility in France, and the conversion to the Commercial version will be undertaken in the UK by engineering specialists EDC Limited, based in Pontypool, Wales.

Order books are open now, with retail prices starting at £51,931 plus VAT and on-the-road costs. The first customer deliveries are expected towards the end of June.
