Isuzu D-Max goes electric with EV Concept

Isuzu is set to unveil its prototype of the electric D-Max pickup this month, having discussed it being in development last year, with a reveal at the Bangkok International Motor Show.

Isuzu promises that the D-Max EV Concept will retain the rugged ability and reliability the brand is known for while delivering the environmental benefits of electric power.

The D-Max BEV (battery electric vehicle) will, according to Isuzu, maintain its 3.5-tonne towing capacity and one-tonne payload, even with the extra battery weight under the chassis. The newly developed e-axles at both the front and rear of the pickup will mean that the D-Max BEV will have a full-time four-wheel drive system, ensuring excellent performance over rough terrain.

The 66.9Wh lithium-ion battery pack provides the energy for a 177hp (130kW) electric motor to keep the wheels rolling. With instant torque available from the electric powertrain, acceleration will be snappy, and with a maximum speed of 81mph, the pickup will be no slouch on the UK’s roads.

Alan Able, managing director, Isuzu UK:
"The Isuzu D-Max BEV represents a new era for pick-up trucks, combining the legendary toughness of the D-Max with electric technology. We are proud to work with a manufacturer committed to creating a carbon-neutral future and announce this innovative vehicle to the UK market, providing our customers with an environmentally friendly option without compromising on performance or reliability."
Isuzu Motors International Operations Thailand Spokesperson:
“The Isuzu D-Max BEV represents a new chapter in our commitment to sustainable mobility. With its innovative electric powertrain and rugged design, it demonstrates our dedication to providing customers with reliable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.”

While the D-Max EV Concept on show in Bangkok isn’t the final vehicle, it’s unlikely to be too dissimilar to the production model we'll see on the market. Once pickups start rolling off the production line in 2025, they will likely head to European mainland markets first before expanding into the UK, Australian, and Thai markets soon after.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
