For the tenth consecutive year, the Ford Transit Custom ended up as the best-selling van in the UK.

With the larger Ford Transit taking the second place spot in 2023, it marks the 58th successive year that a Transit has taken the top spot on the chart.
Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that 40,865 Ford Transit Custom vans found new homes in 2023, with the Transit recording 28,280 registrations. The compact Transit Connect also snuck into the top 10, with 10,856 new sales.
For the last two years, the Transit Custom has been the best-selling vehicle in the UK, outselling even the most popular cars, but it slipped back to second place for 2023 — behind the Ford Puma compact SUV.

Across all models, including the Ranger pick-up (above), Ford’s share of the light commercial vehicle market stands at 30.1% with 103,026 registrations — marginally down on 2022’s total of 105,913. Ford dominates its rivals in the LCV market, with second place Volkswagen ending the year with 34,707 sales, some 68,319 behind the market leader. Combining the Stellantis brands — Citroen, Fiat, Peugeot and Vauxhall — brings the French firm closer, with 94,978, but that still leaves the manufacturing group short of Ford’s total.
An all-new Ford Transit Custom arrives in the UK this year, fresh from winning the International Van of the Year award. With new technology, powertrains, and driver-focused features, it should ensure its enduring popularity for several more years. An all-electric E-Transit Custom will join the range in the second half of the year, further widening its appeal.
