- New Xpeng G6 officially arrives in UK
- Electric SUV priced from £39,990
- Range of up to 354 miles
- 800-volt architecture and rapid charging
A major new competitor to the Tesla Model Y has just hit the UK market - and here’s everything you need to know about the Xpeng G6.
The G6 is a fully-electric SUV that might have flown under your radar thus far but which deserves your attention.
Xpeng is a Chinese manufacturer with bases in both California and Germany and which also recently partnered with a giant of the industry - Volkswagen.
In short, Xpeng means business, and this week as part of the G6’s arrival the company also announced plans for a 20-strong network of dealerships across the UK to support the launch of lots of other new vehicles.
Those include the X9 seven-seater and the eVTOL X2 flying car. Yes, you read that right, a flying car.
We now know that the G6 costs from £39,990, an eye-catching RRP that undercuts the Tesla Model Y while also throwing the gauntlet down to the similarly-priced cars like the Renault Scenic E-Tech, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Explorer.
So, what’s good about an Xpeng G6 lease and why would you want one?
Xpeng G6 design
The first thing you’ll notice is that the G6 is decent-looking, with rounded curves and a modern light signature that wraps around the front end - just like the facelifted new Tesla Model Y.
The G6 is a practical family car, with plenty of room in the back for rear passengers and a generous 571 litres of storage.
The cabin is well-appointed, coming with a 14.96-inch central control screen, a separate 10.2-inch digital cockpit, and goodies like heated and ventilated seats and wireless phone charging.
Xpeng G6 EV architecture
What’s impressive about the Xpeng G6 is that it’s underpinned by a 800-volt EV architecture. Think premium products like the Porsche Taycan or Audi A6 e-tron.
And what it actually means in practicality is that the G6 is rapid to charge, accepting up to 280 kW DC, taking the energy in the battery from 10-80% in less than 20 minutes.
You get a range of up to 354 miles between charges (on Long Range models). An efficiency-boosting heat pump comes as standard.
And all variants come with vehicle-to-load (V2L) skills, which lets you power household devices with the car’s battery.
Xpeng G6 trim levels
There are two main versions of an Xpeng G6 lease.
The entry-level is RWD (rear-wheel drive) Standard Range. It makes use of a 66 kWh battery and gets a range of up to 270 miles between charges and power of 258 PS.
The RWD Standard Range car will also accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.6 seconds. That’s pretty brisk without being blistering.
Standard-fit equipment includes 20-inch alloys with Michelin tyres, a panoramic glass roof, heated seats all round, ventilated seats in the front, heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and an 18-speaker sound system.
You’ll also be protected by Xpeng’s ‘XPilot’ driver assistance systems as standard, which includes tech like adaptive cruise control and automated parking.
The RWD Long Range model unlocks a larger 87.5 kWh battery, which boosts the power to 286 PS and increases the range to a max of 354 miles. The Long Range G6 can also sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds.
And a note from Xpeng
Dr. Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of Xpeng, said: “We are excited to bring a new era of smarter, more sustainable mobility to the UK market and globally. With Xpeng’s cutting-edge proprietary technology - ranging from futuristic design and impressive range to ultra-fast charging - we are confident that our vehicles will resonate with UK consumers, offering exceptional quality, innovation, and an outstanding driving experience."
