DS No.8 glides into Tesla Model Y territory

  • DS No.8 - the full reveal
  • Electric coupe-SUV priced from £50,790
  • New Tesla Model Y rival
  • Range of up to 466 miles

Behold, a new flagship electric SUV from French manufacturer DS - the sleek and long-legged No.8.

Yes, it sounds like a new perfume from Chanel but the No.8 isn’t to be sniffed at, being a left-field new rival to the Tesla Model Y.

Like the Model Y, the DS No.8 is priced from around £50,000 (the entry-level Model Y is actually slightly cheaper…). And, again like the Tesla, the No.8 is also a sloping SUV with a coupe profile.

There are some impressive stats underpinning a DS No.8 lease, too.

The variants fitted with a ‘Long Range’ 97.2 kWh battery and front-wheel drive will journey up to 466 miles, according to DS.

That’s 90 miles more than the Model Y and also out-guns the Polestar 3 and the Audi A6 e-tron. Heck, it gives the DS No.8 one of the longest ranges available between charges, full stop.

You can lease the DS No.8 with either two or all-wheel drive.

And with power of up to 350 hp, the No.8 is no slouch, capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds.

Design wise, DS says the No.8 boasts ‘avant-garde’ styling while ‘bursting with refinement and technology’. It certainly looks the part, with a silhouette clearly honed in a wind tunnel and available with an illuminated front grille.

There are three drivetrains; FWD (230 hp), FWD Long Range (245 hp), and AWD Long Range (350 hp). The latter of those is, obviously, all-wheel drive and twin-motor.

The regular FWD No.8 is fitted with a 73.7 kWh battery while the Long Range models get a bigger 97.2 kWh unit. The base FWD gets a 341-mile range while the AWD Long Range can journey 427 miles before it needs to be plugged in again.

Fast charging at up to 160 kW can boost the energy from 20 to 80% battery in just 27 minutes. With a three-phase 11 kW Wallbox, you’re looking at 6 hours.

There are two trims to choose from - Pallas and Etoile.

The base Pallas grade is stacked, coming with a 16-inch touchscreen, 3D sat nav, wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a wireless smartphone charger, keyless entry and start, front, lateral and rear parking sensors and reversing camera, privacy glass at the rear, heated seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, multi-ambient lighting, power tailgate with hands-free access, and a head-up display. All models also get an EV efficiency-boosting heat pump fitted as standard.

The Etoile trim adds extras like an illuminated front grille, comfort seats with a neck warmer, and DS’s semi-autonomous ‘Drive Assist 2.0’ package.

Besides the Tesla Model Y, rivals to the DS No.8 include the Polestar 4, BMW i4, and Audi Q6 e-tron.

Richard was super helpful, fast to respond to questions and we got the deal done quickly. Delivery was well before the quoted timescale and the deal on the car was amazing. Throughly recommended.
