Try not to think of the bubbly chocolate bar of the same name - and say hello to the incoming new Volkswagen ID.AERO all-electric limo.
This is an important car being billed as a sumptuous executive saloon aimed squarely at the ‘upper-middle class segment’.
It’s a market VW has tried to conquer in the past, with cars like the Phaeton and the more recent Arteon - vehicles that took the fight to Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
And when the ID.AERO arrives in Europe in 2023, it’ll have ‘outstanding aerodynamics, elegant design and generous space’, according to the German firm.
So far, we know very little about what sort of range or power the ID.AERO might have.
But we do know that it’ll sit on the same Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform as all the other models in the VW ‘ID’ electric family, so it could well be able to travel for more than 300 miles between charges, as the ID.5 SUV crossover can.
A Volkswagen spokesperson says of the ID.AERO:
“Stylistically, it also follows the unmistakable design language of the ID. family.
“For example, the exterior design of the ID. AERO is flowing and precise. Particularly striking features of the pre-production study are the aerodynamic front and roof, which help to reduce energy consumption and increase range.”
The ID.AERO is going to be exported to the lucrative Chinese market before it lands in America and Europe. It’ll get its full ‘digital premiere’ on Monday 27 June, so we’ll bring you further details as and when they arrive.
But in the meantime it’s well worth taking a look at VW’s current equivalent limo - the Arteon, which you can lease from around £484.
While it might be overlooked in favour of perhaps more prestigious models from Audi and BMW, it’s a good-looking, head-turning car.
The ‘Shooting Brake’ estate variant is particularly attractive, coming with a large 565 litre boot.
Whichever Arteon you choose, you can opt for a frugal plug-in hybrid powertrain, which enables you to travel for up to 38 miles using electricity alone.
Meanwhile you can also choose the raucous Arteon ‘R’ hot models, which have power of 320 bhp and a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds.
