Better range, more power - say hello to the updated new Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5.
In case you’re not familiar, the fully-electric VW ID.4 and ID.5 both sit on the same platform and are roughly the same size, but the ID.5 adopts a more coupe-like, swept back rear end compared with the more SUV-shaped ID.4.
And now both cars are getting a major facelift that sees improvements all-round.
As it stands, power outputs vary for the regular ID.4 and ID.5 from 148 PS to 204 PS.
But from now on, both EVs will be powered by VW’s new ‘APP550’ drive unit, which delivers 286 PS and 545 Nm of torque. That’s some shift.
As before, you’ll also be able to enjoy the ID.4 and ID.5 in performance ‘GTX’ trim. Those GTX models previously had power of 299 PS, but they now get a whopping 340 PS - enough to have them sprinting from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, which should keep them in the slipstream of the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT.
The ID.4 and ID.5 won’t just go faster than before, they’ll go further, too.
The maximum range of the ID.4 has increased up to 337 miles (10.5 miles further than before) while the ID.5 SUV coupe now has a range of up to 339 miles (an extra 11.8 miles).
All-wheel-drive models also now offer 175 kW DC charging (previously 135 kW), which lets you put 110 miles worth of charge into the battery in around 10 minutes.
The ID.4 and ID.5 should ride better on the road, thanks to a tweaked Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system that aims to find the right balance between comfort and dynamics.
On the outside, a new colour is up for grabs - ‘Costa Azul blue metallic’.
And on the inside, there’s a new infotainment system complete with a larger 12.9-inch screen, while you can also opt for the augmented-reality head-up display.
Both cars are available to order now with Select Car Leasing, with those 2024 models beginning at £478 per month* for the VW ID.4.
