Petrol-powered Jeep Avenger arrives

The ‘electric’ Jeep Avenger is going old skool - and has launched new petrol engines to tempt more lease customers to drive one.

The Avenger, a compact SUV, was launched last year as a fully-electric model, coming with dinky good looks and a range of up to 250 miles between charges.

Critics were impressed, handing the Avenger the European Car of the Year trophy for 2023, as chosen by a panel of 59 motoring journalists from 23 different countries.

Now, like its Marvel superhero namesakes, the Avenger has got two new weapons in its armoury.

They take the form of a traditional 1.2 litre petrol, turbo–charged engine with power of 100 hp, as well as a more sophisticated ‘e-Hybrid’ petrol mild-hybrid with the same power output and which is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The e-Hybrid can also be driven short distances, around half a mile and at low speeds, using electricity alone - which Jeep reckons is perfect for fuel-saving parking manoeuvres.

The mild-hybrid engine has been optimised for fuel economy - you’re looking at around 46 miles to the gallon - and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 15% compared with the less high-tech petrol unit.

Neither the petrol or e-Hybrid are particularly quick, taking around 11 seconds to accelerate from 0-62mph, but the Avenger has never been about performance so it’s unlikely to worry anyone looking to lease one.

The Avenger e-Hybrid will be available with new features, including an open-air ‘Sky Roof’ and a driver’s seat with massage function.

The non-hybrid 1.2-litre petrol Avenger has been given the ‘Altitude Plus’ trim level.

It’ll return 42 mpg, and also comes with sat-nav, a swanky JBL sound system, 18-inch alloys, heated seats, and automatic high beam headlights. Adaptive cruise control also comes as standard.

You can lease the petrol Avenger Altitude Plus right now with Select Car Leasing, with prices starting from £415 per month*.

Both the petrol and the e-Hybrid also come as standard with Jeep’s ‘Select Terrain’ system, which helps you tackle tough driving conditions and includes ‘Snow’, ‘Mud’ and ‘Sand’ modes.

Eric Laforge, Head of Jeep Brand in Europe, said: “Jeep's history of versatile vehicles embodies the freedom of choice for customers, reflecting the brand’s commitment to diversity in its expanded vehicle lineup.”

The electric Jeep Avenger can be leased with Select from just £309 per month*.
