- Four new hot VW Golfs now available to lease
- All-new VW Golf GTI Clubsport has 300 PS
- Estate and hatchback versions of 333 PS Golf R
- Mean and moody Golf R Black Edition commands attention
They’re finally here - some of the most powerful production cars Volkswagen currently offers.
When VW facelifted its long-running Golf earlier this year, we were promised some raucous updates for the R models and GTI Clubsport.
And they’ve now arrived on the leasing market with power of up to 333 PS (for the Golf R) and some seriously sumptuous styling.
Leasing prices (at the time of writing) for the GTI Clubsport hatch begin at £407 per month*.
Here’s a run-down of what else is available.
VW Golf GTI Clubsport
The 300 PS Golf GTI Clubsport sits between the regular Golf GTI and the shouty Golf R in VW’s line-up.
With exclusive front bumpers and honeycomb grille, the Clubsport looks ready to devour the road. The IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights can spot a stray cat (or speed bump) from many yards away while an illuminated Volkswagen logo ensures your car’s badge gets its moment to shine.
Inside the cabin you can enjoy features like keyless access, heated seats, and a 12.9-inch touch display.
The Clubsport’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of accelerating you from 0-62 mph in just 5.6 seconds while the top speed stands at an electronically limited 155 mph.
A high-end sports suspension system is standard fit while VW’s DCC adaptive chassis control is available as an appealing option.
The VW Golf GTI Clubsport begins at £41,655 to purchase outright.
VW Golf R hatchback and Golf R Estate
What you’re looking at here is a Golf R with more power and better precision than the outgoing model.
Output from the R’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine now stands at 333 PS while a DCC adaptive chassis control system provides razor-sharp handling.
You can expect a seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring, which help you sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds (for the hatchback).
The R’s top speed of 155 mph can be boosted to 167 mph with the optional R-Performance package.
When it comes to the R’s exterior, there’s a more muscular design, including a redesigned front end with IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, while the interior features front sports seats with integrated head restraints.
Priced from £43,320 to buy outright for the hatch, £44,685 for the R Estate.
Rounding out Volkswagen's performance line-up is the Golf R Black Edition—a car that takes ‘stealth mode’ seriously.
Packing the same 333 PS 2.0-litre TSI engine as its R siblings, this beast also comes with 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG transmission.
But the real star here is the smouldering dark exterior, featuring black 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels, blacked-out VW badges, R logos, brake callipers, and tailpipe trims. Even the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights have gone to the dark side.
With a large roof spoiler adding to its powerful look, the R Performance package also comes as standard.
This package also offers two additional racetrack-specific driving modes – drift and special – while a GPS lap timer and G-meter complete the list of features designed very much with motorsport enthusiasts in mind.
VW Golf R Black Edition priced from £44,570.
