Volvo makes its electric EX30 more affordable

  • New entry-level ‘Core’ models for Volvo EX30
  • Announced just days after arrival of Kia’s EV3 rival
  • Base model is still fully-loaded with kit
  • Priced from £32,850 to buy outright

There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition - which could explain why Volvo has just announced a cheaper new version of its electric EX30.

The Volvo EX30 is a compact family crossover first launched last year.

And the EX30 welcomed a new competitor to the market this month in the form of the electric Kia EV3 (below). As rivalries intensify, Volvo has moved to make its own proposition even more tempting.

Up until now, the Volvo EX30 ‘Single Motor Plus’ variant was the most affordable available, starting from £33,795.

Now, though, a new single motor ‘Core’ trim level has been introduced which shaves almost a grand off the asking price. It’s a price reduction that should also be reflected in monthly leasing costs.

The Core model is up for grabs with either a Single Motor or Single Motor Extended Range powertrain.

Despite it being the entry-level EX30, it still comes positively loaded with kit, including a rear parking camera, 12.3-inch touchscreen system with Google services built in, a dashboard-mounted soundbar and an energy-saving heat pump on Single Motor Extended Range versions.

The Volvo EX30 Core Single Motor delivers a range of up to 209 miles between charges while the Single Motor Extended Range is capable of travelling up to 295 miles between trips to the plug.

Leasing order books for the Core models are due to open imminently while customer deliveries are expected at the beginning of 2025.

In other Volvo news, the Scandinavian manufacturer has also tweaked the line-up for its luxurious XC90 SUV.

New ‘Plus Edition’ and ‘Ultra Edition’ trim levels replace the current Plus and Ultra grades respectively.

A Volvo spokesperson explains: “The Plus Edition introduces perforated Nappa leather upholstery with ventilation for the front seats, tinted windows and 21-inch alloy wheels (replacing the previous 20-inch wheels). The Ultra Edition adopts 22-inch wheels (previously 21-inch), while the prices for both grades include all exterior paint choices.”

Both new specifications are available with the B5 petrol and T8 petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrains.

I could not recommend Select enough and the amazing service I had from my consultant Shane Newton. Shane regularly updated me on progress of my new vehicle, and was always so helpful in answering any queries I had regarding my order throughout the whole process - no question was silly - he always responded promptly whether that be through email or phone call. I just received my new vehicle last week, and Shane was in contact right away to ensure the handover was seamless and that I was happy with my new vehicle! Needless to say I was very happy with the earlier than anticipated delivery - Christmas has came early! This is my second vehicle with Select and yet another excellent service. I could not fault anything and want to thank Shane once again for all of his help!
