Let’s shine a light on the dazzling new Volkswagen Touareg - seen here in all its glory bathed in the glow from an Arctic aurora borealis.
The all-wheel drive Touareg is, of course, VW’s premium SUV, sitting ahead of the Tiguan and the compact T-Roc.
And VW says its flagship 4x4 is set for a ‘comprehensive technical and visual update’.
It’s pictured here undergoing final testing in Swedish Lapland ahead of a full reveal in the summer of this year.
The Touareg will boast a new rear and front end, the latter of which will come complete with ‘IQ. Light’ HD matrix headlight made up of some 38,400 micro LEDs.
Meanwhile the chassis has also been improved and developed to make it even more agile - and more comfortable - than before.
Speaking about the lights on the Touareg, a VW spokesperson tells us:
“They turn night into day and ensure significantly more brightness on the road - without dazzling oncoming traffic. 19,200 micro-LEDs are distributed over the new headlights on each side of the vehicle. The matrix system projects an interactive carpet of light into the lane of the luxury SUV. This so-called ‘lane light’ makes driving at night more comfortable and makes it easier to drive through narrow motorway construction sites in the dark, as the carpet of light optimally illuminates the lane.”
There’s a nifty illuminated VW logo at the rear.
Driving stability has also been improved thanks to a new sensor that adjusts the ride quality depending on whether or not you’re carrying a load on the roof.
Air suspension will remain a tantalising option for a lot of customers who lease a Touareg, whether you’re looking for ‘maximum comfort’ or ‘optimum performance’, as VW puts it.
Meanwhile the interior has been enhanced with a new ‘Innovision Cockpit’, which offers HD map data and better voice control.
VW says it has also listened to current Touareg drivers to see what else could be improved.
A spokesperson adds:
“The high quality level of the Touareg was further improved by evaluating customer feedback: the armrests and the centre console panels are softer - a plus in comfort. The new Touareg thus also stands for the goal of gearing Volkswagen models even more consistently to the needs of customers. The update makes the Touareg a well- balanced SUV all-rounder that masters long distances as well as everyday life.”
As before, the most desirable Touareg will be the ‘R eHybrid’ - a plug-in hybrid with boat-loads of power and a electric range of around 25 miles.
VW says the Touareg R eHybrid ‘performance model’ will remain the ‘highlight in the product line’.
