Here’s another look at the upcoming new Volkswagen ID.7 - an electric saloon that’s set to have a whopping great range of up to 435 miles.
VW says the ID.7 will launch in Europe before the end of 2023.
And in the meantime, the flagship model is being put through its paces on the warm roads of Alicante, Spain.
One of the ID.7’s biggest selling points is its range, with VW promising a distance of up to 435 miles between charges.
That’s right up there with the very best in class, and gives the 453-mile Mercedes-Benz EQS a good run for its money.
The other thing that’s interesting about the ID.7 is that it represents something of a design departure compared with the rest of VW’s electric range, in that it’s a sleek saloon rather than an SUV-hatchback crossover.
VW hopes that because of the ID.7’s low slung nature, it’ll offer some decent thrills on twisting highways. Which is one of the reasons it’s being piloted through the winding and mountainous roads of south east Spain.
But VW’s Kai Grünitz says the ID.7’s main job is to be an uber-comfortable grand tourer - an 'electric limousine', as VW puts it.
Grünitz explains: “With the ID.7 we have exploited the potential of the MEB even further. We have also used a new, more powerful and more efficient electric drive motor. In addition, we have enhanced the control quality of the running gear and were thus able to further increase driving comfort. The combination of a superior drive system, comfortable running gear and long range make the ID.7 the perfect limousine for long distance travel.”
The ID.7 will also be the most powerful car of the ID family so far. While the German firm hasn’t revealed precise details of the drivetrain just yet, the most powerful ID.5 is packing 303 PS - so you can expect an improvement on that figure.
Lease customers will have the option of equipping adaptive chassis control (DCC), which will help find the perfect balance between sportiness and comfort.
VW says the ID.7 is also ‘extremely spacious’ and the cabin comes complete with a large 15 inch infotainment touchscreen.
(In case you're wondering, 'Gute Fahrt!' means 'have a good trip!' in German...)
With ‘comfort’ as a key watchword, the ID.7 will boast ‘ergoActive’ seats, which have a massage function as well as the ability to measure how hot, cold - or even how sweaty - you are before adjusting the climate settings accordingly.
Ahead of the ID.7's arrival, the most affordable way to drive a VW 'ID' vehicle is with the ID.3 hatchback-SUV crossover, which can be leased with Select from around £328 per month*.
