Here’s your first look at the incoming Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer - a fully-electric estate that’s set to join the leasing market next year.
The ID.7 saloon-hatchback (below) was unveiled earlier this year to compete with the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and it’s already available to lease with Select Car Leasing.
And now VW has thrown the sheets off a more practical ‘Tourer’ variant that comes with a generous 545-litre boot. Fold down the rear seats and you’ll be able to unlock 1,714 litres of luggage space.
Electric estates are few and far between at the moment, but you can expect the ID.7 Tourer to do battle with the incoming BMW i5 Touring, as well as the more affordable Peugeot e-308 SW.
The ID.7 Tourer won’t arrive in the UK until 2024 and it’s seen here in pre-production disguised form.
But VW is confident that ‘sophisticated aerodynamics’ will give it a class-leading electric range between charges.
Those precise figures are still to be revealed, but we do know that the ID.7 saloon has a range of up to 434 miles between trips to the plug, so the larger (and heavier) ID.7 Tourer should break the 400-mile barrier.
We do know that, like the ID.7 Saloon, the ID.7 Tourer will have power of up to 286 PS, in ‘Pro’ guise, and it’ll ultimately roll off the production line at Volkswagen’s plant in Emden, north west of Germany, just like the VW ID.4.
A VW spokesperson tells us: “Volkswagen is one of the most successful estate manufacturers worldwide. For more than 60 years, there have been practical models that have so far been called Variant or Shooting Brake (in the case of the Arteon). With the new ID.7 Tourer, the brand is providing a first glance of its first all-electric estate, which will debut in 2024.”
While you wait for the VW ID.7 Tourer to arrive, you can lease the affordable and practical VW ID.4 (below) with Select from £345 per month*.
