A virtual sneak-peek at the Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 is coming soon - and we were lucky enough to see it from a unique perspective this week.

The Polestar 3 is an all-electric SUV that blazes a new trail for the forward-thinking Swedish-Chinese manufacturer.

It’s got all the trademark Scandinavian style we’ve come to expect from Polestar, a company jointly-owned by Volvo and Geely, complete with a sumptuous-yet-minimalist interior and class-leading safety technology.

There’s an abundance of power - up to 517 hp - as well as a range of up to 379 miles between charges.

And as we found out this week after enjoying a virtual look around the 3 at a Polestar ‘Space’ event in Manchester, it’s set to take on the big guns of the premium SUV world.

A Polestar ‘Space Specialist’ told us how the Polestar 3 will, in their eyes, sit a rung-above competitors like the Audi Q8 e-tron, instead trading blows with the BMW iX and the Tesla Model X.

(Above: Silhouette of the new Polestar 3 superimposed over the existing Polestar 2 fastback)

Using sophisticated augmented reality technology, we were able to inspect the Polestar 3 from every angle, noting the eye-catching blades on the rear bumper designed to improve aerodynamics, as well as the high-spec Brembo performance brakes that come as standard with every Polestar 3.

The new-look Polestar grille, which houses all of the sensing and danger-detecting tech and also features on the updated Polestar 2 - is something you’d easily grow to love.

And what’s also striking upon seeing the Polestar 3 in the ‘flesh’, so to speak, is just how svelte and coupe-like it is, compared with the shape of a traditional SUV.

The first Polestar 3 models being made available, and which you can order now with Select Car Leasing with prices from around £985 per month, will start being delivered to customers in October or November of this year.

They’re all Long Range Dual Motor cars, though our Polestar Space Specialist hinted that single-motor - and therefore more affordable - variants would also arrive in due course.

A large 111 kWh battery translates to a 0-62 mph time of just 5 seconds - which is quicker than the BMW iX xDrive40 M Sport.

Opt for the ‘Performance’ pack and the Polestar 3 will hit 62mph from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds, which is just fraction of a second behind the range-topping BMW iX xDrive 50 model.

The Polestar 3 supports rapid charging, up to a claimed 250 kW DC, which should make replenishing the battery an absolute breeze.

Meanwhile all of the initial Polestar 3 models will also come with the firm’s highly-sophisticated ‘Pilot Plus’ suite of driver safety and assistance technology. That includes adaptive cruise control, ‘Run-off Road Mitigation’, intelligent speed assist, oncoming lane mitigation, and ‘Cross Traffic Alert’ with brake support.

That’s a whole heap of high-tech wizardry designed to keep you and your passengers safe.

In terms of creature comforts, you can expect a large 14.5 inch centre screen, a head-up display, air filtration system, a Bowers & Wilkins sounds system, an acoustic laminated windscreen and rear windows to reduce road noise, and active air suspension which lowers automatically at higher speeds to improve aerodynamics.

A 484 litre boot is also generous.

As Polestar puts it, the 3 is a ‘next level’ car from every angle.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, recently said:

“Polestar 3 is a powerful electric SUV that appeals to the senses with a distinct, Scandinavian design and excellent driving dynamics. It takes our manufacturing footprint to the next level, bringing Polestar production to the United States. We are proud and excited to expand our portfolio as we continue our rapid growth.”

And what about the Polestar 2 (below) - a car described as a ‘Fastback’ saloon and which is a real rival to the Tesla Model 3?

Select Car Leasing was in attendance at the Polestar event at Manchester’s Trafford Centre, with Shane Bracken, Select’s Corporate New Business Relationship Manager, on hand to talk customers through the benefits of leasing a Polestar 2 as a business lease customer or as part of a company’s fleet.

Shane explained:

“Polestar might be a relatively new manufacturer to motorists in the UK, but what we’re seeing is people placing a high level of trust in the brand because they realise it’s a sister company of Volvo. And you can see that unmistakable Volvo DNA in every element of the Polestar 2’s design.
“We’re talking to lease customers who’ve enjoyed driving a Tesla Model 3 for a couple of years, but they’re now looking to experience something new, something different.
“And that’s where the Polestar 2 is proving so popular - attracting people who have been there, done that, and bought the Tesla t-shirt.”

You can lease a Polestar 2 with Select Car Leasing from £501 per month. Prices include VAT. Credit is Subject to Status, Ts and Cs and Arrangement Fees apply. Excess mileage may apply. Stock levels and prices correct as of 06/01/23

There are several Polestar Spaces across the UK, where you can book a test-drive in the Polestar 2 and also get a glimpse at the Polestar 3.

Here’s a list of the Polestar Spaces:

  • Manchester (The Trafford Centre)
  • Solihull (The Touchwood Shopping Centre)
  • Bicester (Bicester Heritage)
  • London (Battersea Power Station)
  • Bristol (coming soon)
  • Glasgow (coming soon)
