Electric and hybrid variants of Vauxhall Frontera will cost the SAME

  • Vauxhall Frontera will go on sale this Autumn
  • ‘Price parity’ for both fully-electric and mild-hybrid models
  • Both EV and Hybrid models cost from £23,495
  • Will make the Frontera one of the UK’s cheapest EVs

When the new Vauxhall Frontera goes on sale later this autumn the entry-level electric and hybrid models will cost exactly the same, the manufacturer has revealed.

Vauxhall reckons it’s the first car to achieve ‘electric and internal combustion engine price parity’ with the cost for both standing at £23,495.

It also makes the electric Frontera one of the cheapest EVs going full stop, being much cheaper than the £30,000 MG ZS EV, or even the much smaller Fiat 500 Electric.

The Frontera Electric utilises a 44 kWh battery and gets relatively modest amounts of power at 113 PS. There’s a top speed of 87 mph and 0-62 mph goes by in 12.1 seconds.

The Frontera EV will initially have a max range of up to 186 miles, though a Long Range variant capable of travelling up to 248 miles will be added to the line-up next year.

A 100kW rapid charger will also take the Frontera Electric’s battery from 20-80% in just 26 minutes.

The other powertrain is a mild-hybrid that mates a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 48V tech. You can enjoy power of either 100 hp or 136 hp (just as you get with the new Fiat 600 Hybrid)

Size-wise, the Frontera sits in the Vauxhall range between the smaller Mokka and larger Grandland.

There are two trim levels from launch - entry-level ‘Design’ and range-topping ‘GS’.

The Design Frontera gets 16-inch steel wheels, wheel arch cladding and automatic headlights and wipers, while the GS models add 17-inch alloys, body-coloured bumpers and a silver skid plate.

The cabin is well equipped, coming with twin 10-inch screens, sat nav, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging. Those base Design models also get a suite of safety tech as standard, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert.

The GS Frontera improves on that with plusher seats and front parking sensors, among other upgrades.

And if you choose to lease the Frontera Hybrid at the GS grade you also have the option of configuring it with seven seats - an affordable £550 option.

One of the Frontera’s biggest rivals will be the incoming new Citroen C3 Aircross, with EV models sitting on exactly the same ‘Smart Car’ platform provided by global manufacturing group Stellantis.
