‘Prologue’ takes Toyota C-HR to ‘higher level’

Prepare for an even bolder version of the Toyota C-HR - because this ‘Prologue’ model is being lined-up for full production.

The C-HR is, in our eyes, one of the stylish crossovers on the market, and more than a match for rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen T-Roc.

The version you can lease right now (pictured below) is a self-charging hybrid - featuring either a 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol engine married to an electric motor - offering power of up to 184 hp and fuel economy of up to 57.6 miles to the gallon.

But now Toyota is promising a new plug-in hybrid variant, which is likely to boost efficiency even further.

And by the looks of this ‘Prologue’ teaser, the C-HR is also going to get a radical style overhaul, too.

It has been developed at Toyota’s European Design Development centre in the south of France - the same creative hub that birthed the current Toyota C-HR.

And Toyota says the Prologue is all about taking the C-HR to an ‘even higher level’ while ‘building on its popular reputation for audacity, provocation and fun’.

The C-HR Prologue looks altogether more sporty, though Toyota assures us that there’s actually more room in the cabin than before.

The ‘hammerhead’, ‘shark-like’ front end really stands out, as the grille apertures have been reduced in size and the headlights have been slimmed-down to ‘accentuate the high-tech identity’ of the car, says Toyota.

There’s a ‘tri-colour’ combo for the exterior, thanks to a mix of ‘sulphur’, ‘metal silver’ and ‘recycled carbon black’ shades.

Perhaps most importantly, Toyota says its new vision for the C-HR is no pipe-dream - as the Japanese firm is committed to making the Prologue a reality.

A spokesperson says:

“The Toyota C-HR Prologue is a first – but very real – vision of a car that will soon be turning heads on roads across Europe. More than a simple concept, it makes clear that Toyota is staying true to what made the original model such a success.”

Meanwhile Lance Scott, Design Director Toyota European Design Development, adds:

“Our mission was to dig deep, to go further than we’d ever gone before. We’re really looking forward to delivering the new Toyota C-HR.”

You can lease a Toyota C-HR with Select Car Leasing from just £298 per month*.

Be sure to check out the ‘GR Sport’ trim level, which comes loaded with goodies like 19 inch alloys, bi-tone paint, GR Sport badges and scuff plates, tinted LED adaptive headlights, and full electric black Alcantara leather seats.

One of the other great things about the C-HR is that adaptive cruise control is standard fit, no matter which trim level you choose, as is a full suite of driver assistance and safety tech, including lane departure alert with steering control.
