Tesla Model Y - new line-up revealed!

  • New variants of Tesla Model Y launched
  • Entry-level car gets 311-mile range
  • Long Range RWD ups range to max 387 miles
  • No sign of Performance or 7-seater
  • Priced from £44,990

Tesla has thrown the sheets off three new variants of its revised Model Y - and there’s a new entry-level car with 311 miles of range.

The all-new Model Y made its debut back in January, to much fanfare.

It glided into the UK lease market with a new Cybertruck-style front face and improvements to tech and comfort levels all round.

Up until now, the facelifted Model Y was only available in the all singing, all dancing ‘Launch Series’, which is clad in vegan suede upholstery and would set you back a cool £60,990 to buy.

Now, though, the Californian firm has revealed (almost, see below…) the full line-up for the Model Y range - and it’ll be available to lease imminently.

Let’s start at the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y, which is priced from £44,990 and shaves two grand off the asking price for the outgoing base car.

The RWD Model Y gets a range of up to 311 miles between charges - a good chunk more than the 283 miles you got with the last RWD Model Y before it was withdrawn from sale at the back end of 2024.

The new RWD is quick off the mark, accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. And it’s also fully-loaded with equipment as standard, including a 15.4-inch touchscreen, heated seats front and rear, a heated steering wheel, reversing camera, a panoramic glass roof and, of course, Tesla’s basic Autopilot system, which includes autosteer and traffic-aware cruise control.

Stealth Grey is the no-cost paint option.

Moving up the Model Y roster, the Long Range RWD costs from £48,990 and ups the range to a very decent 387 miles between charges. It can’t match the 435 miles of range you get with the Peugeot E-3008, but it’s in-line with rivals like the Audi Q4 e-tron and Renault Scenic E-Tech.

The Model Y Long Range RWD also reduces the 0-60 mph sprint speed down to 5.4 seconds.

Then there’s the Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (£51,990) which (obviously) adds an additional motor to the front axle for more road-going assuredness while still being able to travel up to 364 miles between trips to the plug.

The Long Range AWD is also the quickest of the bunch, covering 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

So, what else do you need to know about the new Tesla Model Y?

There are two real elephants in the room; the Performance Model Y and the 7-seater.

The 7-seat Model Y arrived in October last year but it’s not evident in Tesla’s latest release and there’s some confusion as to whether it will be brought back at all, having been jettisoned from other global markets.

The Performance Model Y should be available with the new shape at some point in 2025, but we don’t quite know yet when that’ll happen.

What we do know is that the new Model Y promises more comfort and a more seamless tech journey than before.

The interior gets more refined materials and better sound-deadening, making the cabin a more serene place to eat-up those miles.

So-called ‘Anti-Gravity’ seats are now heated and ventilated and Tesla has also brought back traditional stalks for the indicators, rather than relying on buttons on the steering wheel.

There’s now an 8-inch screen in the back for rear passengers which also supports games via the ‘Tesla Arcade’.

And the infotainment tech has also been uprated to offer more range for the Phone Key, clearer calls, and faster cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity - without any associated lag.

As ever, the Model Y is quick to recharge, with 250 kW DC capabilities able to put 165 miles’ worth of charge back in the battery in just 15 minutes.

We had a nosey around the new Model Y this month - and you can read that full report here.

Cameron is honestly the best person to deal with, this is the second time I’ve gone through him to find a car and he’s so helpful and quick. This time I wasn’t sure which vehicle I wanted and he found me a great car on a good deal too. Thanks again!
