New Tesla Model Y arrives with Cybertruck-inspired face!

  • Updated new Tesla Model Y revealed
  • Borrows style cues from the Tesla Cybertruck
  • Increased range and improved tech
  • Full UK specs still to be revealed

This is the new-look Tesla Model Y - arriving with a style overhaul that takes its cues from the unmistakable Tesla Cybertruck.

The Model Y - the best-selling EV in the UK last year, no less - has been updated for 2025, a refresh that has long been in the works and which arrives with a great degree of fanfare.

You’re looking here at the Model Y as revealed by Tesla China and Tesla Australia - the full UK specs are still to be confirmed so watch this space on that front.

But what’s instantly obvious is that the refreshed Model Y looks very different to the outgoing model.

There’s a light bar running the full width of the front, which apes the look of the angular Cybertruck and which gives the Model Y a more menacing stare. The Model Y’s face also features a new camera for the ‘Autopilot’ systems.

At the back there are new C-shaped LED tail lights while the Model Y has also grown in length, a feature that also improves aerodynamics.

Meanwhile updated suspension, wheels and tyres also promises a ‘smoother and quieter’ ride, according to Tesla.

The Californian firm is going with a predictably futuristic theme in the interior, likening the new Model Y to a ‘Starship’ and talking about how it boasts ‘refined materials’ which ‘integrate with advanced features to create a reimagined cabin environment that challenges your perception of what riding in a car should feel like.’

So-called ‘Anti-Gravity’ seats are now heated and ventilated while new acoustic glass promises motoring serenity.

If you’re a fan of actual knobs and switches rather than haptic buttons and swipe pads, look away now. Like the newest Tesla Model 3, the new Model Y appears to have done away with indicator stalks and the gear selector, with those functions accessed by buttons on the steering wheel or via the infotainment touchscreen instead.

Speaking of which, the screen still measures 15.4 inches but gets improved tech and there’s also an 8-inch screen in the back for rear passengers which also supports games via the ‘Tesla Arcade’.

When it comes to powertrains, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant of the Model Y can now travel up to 342 miles between charges, which is up 11 miles on the 331 mile max that this particular variant currently enjoys.

The Long Range AWD is also quicker than before, covering 0-62 mph in just 4.3 seconds.

There’s no word yet on the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive or Performance AWD Model Ys just yet, but we’ll bring you news on that front when we get it.

But, as ever, the Model Y is quick to recharge, with 250 kW DC capabilities able to put 165 miles’ worth of charge back in the battery in just 15 minutes.

Great service, incredibly professional and helpful. Our leasing was handled by Mr David Jones who has been absolutely wonderful. He managed to get our paperwork done very quickly, so we could get everything approved before the Christmas holidays. I highly recommend Select Car Leasing and especially working with David!
