New Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD gets 436-mile range

  • New Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD introduced in UK
  • Priced from £44,990 to buy outright
  • Max 436-mile range
  • Available to lease imminently

You can now go further than ever in a Tesla Model 3 after the manufacturer introduced a new Long Range RWD variant with a 436-mile range.

Up until this point, Tesla only offered its Long Range Model 3 (which packs a 75 kWh battery) with an all-wheel drive powertrain, resulting in a range of up to 390 miles between charges.

This new rear-wheel drive Long Range option sheds weight on the 4x4 Model 3 by only having a single motor, which ups the range to maximum 436 miles - or 398 miles if you opt for 19 inch alloys instead of the standard 18-inch rims.

Like other Model 3s, the Long Range RWD is still plenty rapid, capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

And when you use a 250 kW supercharger you can add up to 175 miles of range in just 15 minutes.

Tesla also claims that its Model 3 Long Range RWD provides the best price-to-range ratio on the EV leasing market while also boasting one of the most efficient powertrains, full stop, at 4.97 miles per kWh.

You get a 15.4-inch central display as well as an 8-inch touchscreen in the rear. There are heated and ventilated seats in the front, heated seats in the back.

And, of course, the basic Tesla ‘Autopilot’ package - which includes automatic steering and traffic-aware cruise control - also comes as standard.

In other Tesla news, the Californian firm has also revealed the first details of its fully-autonomous, self-driving Robotaxi and Robovan.

Under the clever heading, ‘We, Robot’, Tesla says that with the Robotaxi, you can ‘hail your car and use it as long as you need for errands, commuting and more’.

There’s no steering wheel, just two seats, a large 21-inch screen, some cup holders, and eye-catching butterfly doors.

Speaking at an event in Los Angeles, Tesla’s Elon Musk said the Robotaxi could be put into full production by 2026 with a price tag of around $30,000. Rather than being pitched at private owners, Tesla reckons the Robotaxi will appeal to the likes of Uber operators running large fleets.

The Robovan (above and interior below), meanwhile, offers ‘autonomous transport for groups or goods, from mass transit to construction to food service’.

You can watch a video of the ‘Robo’ vehicles’ launch below.
