- New Rolls-Royce Black Badge Spectre revealed
- Most powerful Rolls-Royce in history
- Power of 659 hp summoned via the ‘Infinity Mode’ button
- Limited edition model for very discerning clients
This is the new fully-electric Rolls-Royce Black Badge Spectre - and it’s the most powerful Roller ever created.
The Spectre is, of course, Rolls-Royce’s flagship EV super coupe that first launched in 2023 with a cool £330,000 price tag.
In standard form, the Spectre develops 577 hp and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, courtesy of the same 102 kWh battery you’ll find in the BMW i7.
Here, however, the mean and moody, strictly limited edition Black Badge Spectre ups the power to 659 hp while the torque increases from 900 Nm to a pretty gargantuan 1,075 Nm. That additional oomph is accessed via an ‘Infinity Mode’ button on the steering wheel.
And it means the ‘rebellious’ Black Badge Spectre can glide from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds while still returning a range of up to 329 miles between charges. the power figure also eclipses the recent Rolls-Royce Black Badge Wraith Black Arrow, which uses a V12 petrol engine to develop 624 hp.
The British firm started by analysing the driving behaviours of existing Spectre drivers. They realised that most ‘exploited maximum power in short pulses more than over extended periods’ - hence the Infinity Mode. It’s a hark back to the way that pilots could get additional bursts of grunt from the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine used in the Supermarine Spitfire.
There’s also a Spirited Mode - aka, launch mode - for ‘intense, instantaneous acceleration’ off the line while the steering weight and suspension has been dialled-in for a more sporty ride quality.
Of course, the power stats tell just half the story when it comes to this mouth-watering model - described as the standard Spectre’s bold ‘alter ego’.
There’s a Vapour Violet paint finish inspired by the neon ambience of 1980s and 1990s club culture, an Iced Black bonnet, darkened brightwork, and a set of new 23-inch alloys. There’s also a new illuminated front grille and illuminated treadplates.
The interior has been treated to a unique pattern on the illuminated fascia, complete with the Infinity symbol found on other Black Badge models, as well as a ‘Technical Fibre’ surface finish - a diamond-shaped weave that uses carbon and fine metal thread on top of a black Bolivar wood base.
Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, says: “Black Badge Spectre is one of the clearest statements of power and purpose we have ever made. It has been created in the image of our boldest and most audacious clients, with meticulous attention to detail. From the beginning of Black Badge Spectre’s journey, the clients who requested this extraordinary motor car dared us to share their fearless spirit. In response, our engineers combined data science, qualitative feedback, and their own deep knowledge of the brand’s alter ego to craft an intense and uncompromising character, and the most powerful Rolls-Royce in history.”
Rolls-Royce has already given the Black Badge treatment to other Rollers in the range, such as the Cullinan SUV.
The one-off, moon-inspired Spectre Lunaflair also made its debut at the tail end of 2024.
Pricing has yet to be revealed, but you can expect it to cost well north of the regular Spectre’s £333,000 cost.
