- Stunning new Smart #5 Brabus revealed
- 645 PS and 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds
- More power than Porsche Macan Electric Turbo
- Range of up to 335 miles
- Available to lease later this year
This is the new Smart #5 Brabus - an outrageous new electric SUV with more power than most motorists will know what to do with.
The regular Smart #5 was revealed earlier this year as a Tesla Model Y rival while also being the manufacturer’s largest car to date.
It’s not actually available to lease just yet and will hit UK forecourts later this year.
But now Brabus - the famous German tuning company and friend of Mercedes-Benz, which part owns Smart alongside China’s Geely - has got its mitts on the #5 with rather jaw-dropping effects.
The bog standard Smart #5 is no slouch, with range-topping models able to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The Smart #5 Brabus ups the ante considerably.
A 100 kWh battery unlocks power of 645 PS, which is more than you get with the 639 PS Porsche Macan Electric Turbo. The Brabus #5 can launch from 0-62 mph in 3.8 seconds, which is admittedly slower than the Macan Turbo but still ample for most.
The Smart #5 Brabus is also rapid to charge. An 800-volt electric platform supports ultra-fast DC charging of up to 400 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes under optimal conditions.
You also get a range of up to 335 miles, which is more than you get with the new Standard Range RWD Tesla Model Y.
The Brabus model looks quite a bit different to the regular Smart #5. There are 21-inch rims, red brake calipers, and other red flourishes across the exterior.
The cabin boasts heated rear and ventilated front seats clad in microfibre, an Alcantara steering wheel, panoramic roof, sports pedals, and 256-colour ambient lighting.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO smart Europe, said: “This vehicle embodies our vision of electric performance and redefines what customers can expect from an electric SUV with powerful dynamics, top connectivity features and the finest interior craftsmanship for an unmatched driving experience.”
There’s no word on price just yet but you’ll be able to order one later this year.
Besides the Porsche Macan Electric Turbo, other rivals to the Smart #5 Brabus will include the incoming Tesla Model Y Performance and the 650 PS Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
