Most powerful Skoda Octavia EVER arrives

  • Revised Skoda Octavia vRS arrives on the leasing market
  • Gets power of 265 PS, which is 20 PS more than before
  • Octavia vRS available as hatchback or estate
  • Priced from £38,670 to purchase outright

The wait is over - order books have now opened for the powerful new Skoda Octavia vRS.

Skoda teased its affordable performance icon earlier this year, when we learned how the updated vRS would enjoy a power boost of 20 PS to take the overall oomph to 265 PS.

That makes it the most powerful production Octavia ever offered by Skoda. It's also the exact same amount of power as the new Volkswagen Golf GTI.

And now the Czech manufacturer has started taking orders for both the vRS hatchback and the vRS Estate, with prices beginning at £38,670 to buy outright and with leasing fees revealed imminently.

The Octavia vRS’s power comes via a 2.0 TSI four-cylinder petrol unit which offers 379 Nm of torque and which is mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard.

The vRS hatchback (it’s basically a saloon with a hatchback boot, in case you were confused about the styling) will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 6.4 seconds while the vRS Estate takes slightly longer at 6.5 seconds.

Skoda says that despite the higher power output, the Octavia vRS is still capable of returning around 40 miles to the gallon, which isn’t bad for a car of its ilk.

There’s an electrohydraulic differential lock for optimum grip coming out of the corners - it won’t slip the inside wheel when you put the power on - and both vRS models sit 15mm lower to the ground than the regular Octavia.

Looks wise, there are restyled front and rear bumpers and a new vRS logo on the radiator grille. A bumper diffuser and tailpipes are also finished in black while the Estate comes with black roof rails as standard. Large 19-inch wheels are par for the course.

Like other models in the updated Octavia range, the vRS comes with a large 13-inch infotainment system, a 10-inch Virtual Cockpit and optional head-up display.

Other standard equipment on the new vRS models includes an electrically operated boot with virtual pedal, keyless entry and start / stop, and blind spot detection.

Rivals to the Skoda Octavia vRS include the CUPRA Leon, Volkswagen Golf and the soon-to-be-discontinued Ford Focus ST.

Besides the vRS variants, there’s also a new Octavia ‘SportLine’ model (in blue above)- specifically a new 1.5-litre, 150 PS diesel variant. The SportLine trim sits just below the vRS grade and gets black 18-inch alloys, sports seats, and sports suspension with progressive dynamic steering.

The SportLine Octavia starts at £32,255 to purchase outright.

And in the meantime, don’t miss our amazing special offer on the Skoda Octavia in well-equipped ‘SE Technology’ trim.
