Why you should lease a Skoda Octavia vRS hot estate

Skoda has treated its Octavia vRS to a little update to coincide with the King’s Coronation.

And even without the Royal seal of approval, it’s still a car that should be high up your leasing wish list.

To mark His Majesty’s event, Skoda has launched a brand new colour - ‘Royal Green’ - as an additional metallic shade.

It’s available on the Skoda Superb (below) and the seven-seat Kodiaq SUV.

And the Royal Green hue will also be an option on the Octavia - specifically with the SE L model and the range-topping vRS.

For the purposes of this piece, it’s the vRS that we’re most interested in, as it’s a car that offers so much to so many different lease customers.

To that end, we’ve actually got a special offer deal price on the Skoda Octavia Estate vRS which means you can get behind the wheel of one for just £342 per month*.

The Ford Focus Estate ST, on the other hand, is a rival to the Octavia Estate vRS and leasing prices begin at around £497 per month - so you can see the value of the Skoda for yourself.

Here we take a look at everything you need to know about the Skoda Octavia Estate vRS.

Looks

The Octavia vRS is available as both a hatchback and an estate. It’s the estate variant that we’re focusing on in this piece.

And the most practical version of the Octavia vRS proves once and for all that estates needn’t be dull, despite what you might think about them.

The Octavia Estate vRS models are marked out from the regular, common-or-garden Octavias with aggressive exterior bodywork, a unique rear spoiler, dark privacy glass, red-painted brake callipers, and chunky 19 inch alloys.

There’s also a full LED Matrix headlight set up with an AFS (adaptive front light) system which automatically adjusts the illumination depending on where and how you’re driving.

Practicality

You don’t buy an estate if you don’t have stuff to carry.

And the Octavia’s luggage space is suitably massive. It weighs in at a whopping 610 litres.

You get around 575 litres with the Ford Focus ST Estate or 605 litres with the Volkswagen Golf R Estate, so you can definitely consider the Octavia vRS to be class leading.

There are other nice touches to make the Octavia vRS easy to live with, too, including headlight washers and front and rear parking sensors alongside Skoda’s ‘manoeuvre assist’ function, which will apply the brakes for you if you’re about to cock it up.

Performance

Now you’re talking.

So, there are two main powertrains to choose from - a 2.0 litre petrol engine with power of 245 PS, or a 2.0 litre diesel mill with lesser power of 200 PS.

And the good news here is that our Octavia vRS Estate special offer is for a model with the more powerful petrol unit, so you’re quids in there.

The petrol engine is available with either a six speed manual gearbox or a DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) dual clutch automatic. No matter which gearbox you choose, you’ll still get around 40 miles to the gallon.

But if you want all-wheel drive, you’ll have to opt for the diesel - because it’s the only engine that offers 4x4 performance.

The petrol Octavia Estate vRS will sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.7 seconds. That’s slower than the 280 PS Ford Focus ST estate, but not by much.

The other cool thing about the Octavia vRS is that it features a Sports suspension system that’s 15mm lower than standard Octavia.

The 2.0 litre petrol engine also comes mated to an electronically controlled limited slip differential, which is a nice touch if you’re looking for maximum grip.

Interior

There’s plenty to enjoy in the cabin, from the dual-zone air conditioning to the heated sports seats in the front.

There’s black vRS upholstery with eye-catching red stitching as well as a three spoke leather steering wheel.

You also get a 10 inch infotainment screen with sat nav, an eight speaker sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay, and DAB radio.

There’s even an umbrella stowed in the door and an ice scraper in the fuel filler cap!

Safety systems

The Skoda Octavia Estate vRS won’t just get you somewhere in a hurry, it’ll also get you there safely.

There’s a full suite of driver assistance and safety systems in place, not least adaptive cruise control.

You also get lane assist, turn assist and a driver fatigue sensor to stop you nodding off behind the wheel.

The Octavia also scored the full five stars when tested by industry safety assessors Euro NCAP.

Rival cars

The biggest rival to the Octavia Estate vRS has to be the Ford Focus Estate ST (below).

But there are others in the mix, too.

The VW Golf R estate is more potent than the Skoda, coming with power of 324 PS. It’s also more expensive to lease, beginning at around £511 per month.

The Cupra Leon Estate (below) is a great shout, boasting power of up to 314 PS and coming with a ginormous 620 litre boot.

The Audi S4 Avant is another tempting proposition, but attracts a higher monthly lease.

The most powerful standardA4 Avant has lesser power, of up to 204 PS, and will still attract a monthly lease fee of around £401 per month.
