Moon-inspired Spectre Lunaflair is one giant leap for Rolls-Royce

  • Rolls-Royce Spectre Lunaflair revealed
  • One-of-a-kind commission of electric coupe
  • Paint scheme designed to look like a lunar halo
  • Car reserved for ‘significant client’ from USA

Stop howling at the moon and take a look at this - the celestial Rolls-Royce Spectre Lunaflair.

The opulent Spectre is Rolls-Royce’s sumptuous two-door electric coupe, enjoying power of 577 hp, a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, and a range of up to 320 miles between charges.

And what you’re seeing here is a one-of-a-kind ‘Lunaflair’ model designed and built for one very discerning customer, described by a Rolls-Royce as a ‘significant client from the United States’ but without further detail. Chances are good we’d recognise the name if it were ever divulged.

The car itself is inspired by a ‘lunar halo’ - an incredible celestial effect where light refracts through ice particles in cirrus clouds to create a technicolour ring around the moon.

They’re rare events, but large parts of the UK got to enjoy one back in November 2023.

And to mirror that natural phenomenon, Rolls-Royce set about inventing a holographic paint finish that creates a captivating ‘rainbow’ effect when viewed under certain light.

It was a labour of love for the British firm and it took a full year of experimentation before they could perfect the lunar look.

A Rolls-Royce spokesperson tells us: “The final finish is achieved by applying seven layers of lacquer, including a specially formulated pearlescent coat, infused with fine flakes of magnesium fluoride and aluminium. This creates a deep metallic effect under low light that bursts into rainbow technicolour in bright sunshine.”

The Spectre Lunaflair’s dramatic paint job is matched by a spectacular interior that features Navy Blue, White, and Peony Pink tones, ‘recalling the spectrum of hues that can be witnessed during a lunar halo’, says Rolls-Royce.

The colour scheme appears on the seats, doors and the Starlight Headliner while the theme is also carried into the dual-tone steering wheel.

Only one Spectre Lunaflair will ever be produced and the paint finish is reserved exclusively for that one client.

The standard Rolls-Royce Spectre commands at least £330,000 to purchase outright - so Lord only knows how much this special commission ended up costing.
