The ‘hugely likeable’ Isuzu D-Max is the best diesel pick-up you can lease right now, according to judges at Diesel & Eco Car magazine.
The publication has just revealed its Diesel Top 50 Awards 2024 - a run-down that ‘heaps praise upon the diesel cars that really deserve it’ and which has been running for eight years.
It sees a panel of motoring journalists scoring vehicles in ‘real-world conditions’ and focusing on all areas, from the way it handles to the spaciousness of the cabin.
And it’s the D-Max that has triumphed, beating rivals like the Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Amarok.
Ian Robertson, Editor and Publisher of Diesel & Eco Car Magazine, added: “We’ve tested the D-Max in entry-level and flagship trim levels and found both ends of the spectrum hugely likeable and well-suited to their intended audience. The 1.9-litre RZ4E diesel engine feels punchy on the move, and the chassis is composed and grippy. It boasts a smart interior too, with plenty of luxuries. Isuzu’s five-year/125,000-mile warranty is the clincher, as is its smooth six-speed automatic gearbox and 3500kg towing ability.”

Elsewhere at the Diesel & Eco Car Diesel Top 50 Awards 2024, the Skoda Superb was named overall ‘Car of the Year 2024’.
Judges said the Superb took home the silverware thanks to its ‘spaciousness, user friendly ambience and top-notch road manners’. It also got the goings for ‘Best Diesel Large Car’ and ‘Best Diesel Large Estate Car’.
Runner-up was the Mazda CX-60 while the recently relaunched Volkswagen Golf - read our latest review of the VW Golf - was in at No.3.
