Renault Twingo E-Tech set for 2026 launch

  • All-new Renault Twingo E-Tech under spotlight at Brussels Motor Show
  • Electric hatch set for 2026 launch
  • Lots of styling nods to the iconic original
  • Could cost less than €20,000 (£16,755) in Europe

Here’s another look at the incoming Renault Twingo E-Tech, which is set to arrive in 2026 with a bargain basement price tag.

The Twingo departed the UK leasing market back in 2019 but has now been completely reinvented as a fully-electric hatchback.

Before it exited stage left, the Twingo had unique appeal thanks to the fact that it was available with a rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout - a bit like a pint-sized Porsche 911.

Now Renault has told us the rejuvenated Twingo E-Tech will arrive in 2026 - where it could cost ‘less than €20,000’ in Europe (£16,755 in UK money).

While details are still to be confirmed, the Twingo E-Tech is also anticipated to boast rear-wheel drive, making it ‘more fun and enjoyable to drive’ than other rivals.

A relatively small 22 kWh battery should give the Twingo E-Tech a range of around 170 miles in urban driving - which will put it in the same leasing bracket at the Dacia Spring and Citroen e-C3.

It’ll also sit behind the Renault 5 E-Tech and the incoming Renault 4 E-Tech in the French manufacturer’s range.

We also now know - thanks to the Twingo E-Tech taking centre stage at the Brussels Motor Show - that it’ll boast a funky interior (we’d expect nothing less from Renault at this point in time) with plenty of nods to its predecessors.

The knob that lets you adjust the seat is inspired by skateboard wheels - Tony Hawk, eat your heart out - while the red hazard warning light button is housed in a translucent bubble, just like the first Twingo seen back in the 90s.

The front headrests are magnetised so that rear passengers have a holder for their phones.

There’s also an abundance of sustainable materials, including the vehicle’s floor which is made from scuff-resistant tinted cork.

Considering that the Twingo E-Tech is going to be exceedingly affordable, there’s still plenty of kit to enjoy, including a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.1-inch central multimedia screen.

Practicality is an important consideration for Renault, too. A spokesperson tells us: “Every aspect of the interior is designed to make life easier: the streamlined layout includes easily accessible stowage, with spaces under the dashboard and between the two front seats to store bags and everyday objects, and a flat space under the cylinder, running the width of the cabin, that allows passengers to keep a book, their phone or even their sunglasses within easy reach.”

The upholstery is inspired by colours and patterns from the original. And despite having just the four seats, you still get four doors.

More details as we get them but the Twingo is definitely one to watch.

Great service, incredibly professional and helpful. Our leasing was handled by Mr David Jones who has been absolutely wonderful. He managed to get our paperwork done very quickly, so we could get everything approved before the Christmas holidays. I highly recommend Select Car Leasing and especially working with David!
