Renault is about to welcome a new addition to its SUV family - the full hybrid Symbioz.
The French firm describes the Symbioz as a ‘C-segment compact family SUV’ - which is industry-speak for a dependable, do-it-all load-lugger that’ll compete with the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.
And while Renault has been pioneering fully electric cars of late - including the new Scenic E-Tech - the Symbioz will be a full hybrid with a self-charging powertrain and 145hp engine.
The Symbioz is set for a full reveal this spring.
It’ll slot into the Renault range alongside the Austral E-Tech full hybrid and the Arkana E-Tech full hybrid (below), the latter of which blends the practicality of an SUV with the pizazz of a coupe.
And where does the name ‘Symbioz’ come from?
Renault says it borrows from the French word ‘symbiose’, derived from the ancient Greek ‘symbiosis’, meaning ‘living together’. A spokesperson explains: “This is a value deeply rooted in the DNA of Renault, with the brand committed to producing vehicles that completely fulfil the mantra of ‘cars for living’.”
Sylvia Dos Santos, Head of Naming Strategy, Renault Marketing Division, adds: “For this new compact family car, we wanted a name with human significance, expressing the close bond between a family and their car. The name Symbioz perfectly illustrates life with our vehicle, a place where passengers are as one with their vehicle and the environment.”
We don’t yet know precisely what kit the Symbioz will arrive with, but Renault is promising ‘generous amounts of space and loading capacity’, while it’ll also have the firm’s innovative Solarbay panoramic glass roof, which turns opaque at the flick of a switch.
