Fancy owning a Hot Wheels car that you can actually drive on the road, as opposed to holding in your hand?
Well, you now can, because one is being sold at auction in the UK.
The vehicle in question is a 1963 custom Ford Anglia that won the UK leg of a competition called the ‘Hot Wheels Legends Tour’, in which talented car creators try to produce something that wouldn’t look out of place in a toy shop.
The car, nicknamed ‘Misfit’, was first created by fabricator Rob Rashbrook. It was then handed to another fabricator, Michael Charalambous, who ‘took it to the next level’.
It goes under the hammer at auction - on online platform Car & Classic - this week with a guide price of around £30,000.
Car & Classic Head of Editorial, Chris Pollitt, says: “As a toy, it would have been enjoyed by millions, but the winner of our auction will always own the original and unique model.
“The beauty of this car, apart from the precision with which it has been put together, is the opportunity to spot details such as the 1959 Cadillac tail-lights, the third brake light in the roof, and even how the boot pops open, by pulling the number plate bracket. A labour of love, and a lot of fun too.”
Misfit is powered by a four-cylinder engine from an E30 BMW 318is - with a supercharger added for extra spice.
A spokesperson adds: “The boot and doors have been shortened, and the suspension - including a novel De Dion rear end and steering - combines Ford and Hillman Imp parts.
“Examples of blending old and new abound, such as the Ferrari GT race car BBS magnesium rims mounted with double-striped cross-ply tyres.
“The car is built to be driven, and the previous owner used it for everything from school runs to long motorway runs to shows around the country.”
