The all-electric Kia EV6 has scooped yet another major award - this time the ‘Car of the Year 2022’ gong from automotive website The Car Expert.
Rewind to January this year and the EV6 was basking in the glow of being crowned ‘Car of the Year’ at the 2022 What Car? Car of the Year Awards.
At the time it was praised for having a ‘huge real-world range with the ability to charge at speeds that no rival can keep up with’.
Now judges at The Car Expert have also awarded the EV6 its top silverware. Oh, and the EV6 also scooped the trophy for ‘Best New Medium SUV’, too.
Stuart Masson, Editorial Director at The Car Expert, said: “The ability to choose between excellent range or power is a significant benefit for car buyers, while the EV6’s sprightly handling and bold design set it apart from the mainstream.
“Plus, the competitive pricing – with plenty of equipment as standard – really does make the Kia EV6 an outstanding choice as Car of the Year.”
The EV6 - a coupe-like SUV crossover - features a 77.4kWh battery and is available with either a 226 bhp rear-wheel drive, or 321 bhp all-wheel drive set-up.
You get a range of up to 328 miles between charges, depending on the model, and the ability to charge at speeds up to 233 kW DC, which can take the battery from 10-80% in just 18 minutes.
Leasing prices with Select for the EV6 begin at around £485 per month*.
There’s also a super-rapid, 577 bhp Kia EV6 GT variant (below), which can accelerate from 0-62mph in a face-melting 3.5 seconds.
Elsewhere at The Car Expert Awards, the smaller Kia Niro EV was named ‘Best New Small SUV’, with ‘standout features’ being a ‘competitive 285-mile range and performance on offer from its 210hp powertrain’.
The CUPRA Born (below) also did well at the Awards, being named both ‘Best New Small Car’ and ‘Best New Hot Hatch’
Stuart Masson adds: “The CUPRA Born, arguably the UK’s first electric hot hatch, has proven to be a popular choice for those looking for an EV with sporty performance.
“The nippy 58kWh or 77kWh powertrains are a big plus for the Born, making it one of the best fun-to-drive EVs with an Expert Rating of 76%. It also looks great, making the CUPRA Born a worthy winner for both categories.”
The BMW 2 Series Coupe was given the ‘Best New Performance Car’ gong. The Nissan Ariya was named ‘Best New Medium SUV’ and the Citroën C5 X secured ‘Best New Large Car’.
