- Entry-level RWD model singled-out for praise
The Porsche Taycan has won the ‘Best Electric Performance’ prize at the annual What Car? Electric Car Awards 2024.
The Taycan enjoyed a major update earlier this summer, arriving with improvements across the board, not least to the battery size and range between charges.
And despite close competition from the also recently-overhauled Audi e-tron GT, the Taycan was named ‘best electric performance car on sale’ by What Car? judges after impressing with its pace, agility and handling.
A spokesperson for the motoring publication said: “Specify the top Turbo S model with the Weissach Package and 0-62mph takes just 2.2sec, but even the regular Taycan is more than quick enough. What’s more, it’s very usable, thanks to impressive refinement and an interior that’s spacious enough to keep four adults happy.”
What Car? points out that air suspension is now standard across the Taycan range, which improves both comfort and control.
And while the MG Cyberster and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N were also applauded by What Car?, the Taycan ultimately triumphed by offering greater overall appeal.
Elsewhere at the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2024 there were big wins for BMW and Volkswagen, with each manufacturer scooping five awards each.
The BMW i5 Touring was named ‘best electric estate car’ while the sumptuous BMW i7 (watch our video review of the i7 here) took home the silverware for ‘best electric luxury car’.
The Volkswagen Golf 1.5 eHybrid (above) won in the ‘best hybrid family car’ category while the Volkswagen Passat grabbed the ‘Best hybrid estate’ silverware.
The MG4 EV (below), meanwhile, continues to rack-up award wins like they’re going out of fashion, with the acclaimed hatchback here being handed the ‘best electric family car’ gong.
