New Porsche Cayenne prepares for launch

Here’s the upcoming new Porsche Cayenne SUV-coupe being put through its paces on different terrain across the globe.

And with test models having covered around 2.5 million miles, the Cayenne is now preparing for a big premiere in the Spring of this year.

The Cayenne is the largest SUV in the Porsche line-up, sitting ahead of the uber-popular Macan.

The current, third-generation model was launched back in 2017, and has enjoyed consistent nips and tucks ever since to ensure it stays a competitor to rivals like the BMW X6 and the Audi Q8.

The Cayenne is available as either a traditional SUV or a more svelte Coupe and, like the Porsche Panamera, you can also enjoy a frugal plug-in hybrid powertrain that’ll return up to around 90 miles to the gallon.

So, there’s plenty to love - and now the Cayenne is about to get even more attractive.

Porsche says the aim of the game with the new Cayenne is to improve its capabilities across a number of different scenarios - on-road performance, long-distance comfort and off-road prowess.

It’ll have a new ‘semi-active chassis’ - ie, a suspension system that adjusts the damping force of the shock absorbers depending on what’s going on under the wheels - as well as new digital display with enhanced connectivity, and high-tech HD-Matrix LED headlights.

And to make sure everything works as it should, the Cayenne has been on a globe-trotting mission, with testing taking place in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.

Porsche test manager Ralf Bosch explains:

“We’re subjecting the new Cayenne to a complete and comprehensive testing program, just as if we’d developed it from scratch.”

While prototype lead Dirk Lersch adds:

“What we demand from the new Cayenne in tough off-road tests in Spain, on punishing sand dunes in Morocco, or during highly dynamic drives on ice tracks in Finland and on the Nürburgring Nordschleife isn’t something we presume many customers will ever do. But anyone who purchases a Porsche should know that it can withstand exceptionally high loads – regardless of the surface being driven on."

You can expect an abundance of power, too.

The current 4.0 litre petrol Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT develops a whopping 640 PS of power and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.3 seconds.
