Lamborghini reveals love letter to the V12 engine

Lamborghini has unleashed two one-off cars to celebrate the V12 engine - and the track-honed weapons epitomise everything the raging bull brand stands for.

The Italian firm stands on the brink of ushering-in an exciting new era.

In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal its ‘first hybrid super sports’ car. We don’t know much about it yet, other than suggestions it’ll be called ‘Revuelto’, and that it’ll replace the Aventador in the range.

It sounds the death knell for Lamborghini’s traditional V12 as we know it as it embraces battery-electric tech.

But Lambo isn’t letting its tried-and-trusted petrol powertrain end with a whimper.

The Invencible coupe and Auténtica open-top roadster represent everything we’ve come to love about Lamborghini - massive rear spoilers, massive amounts of power, and hexagonal lines everywhere you look.

Lamborghini calls the two creations ‘unmistakable’. They’ll also be exceedingly rare, designed with input from the handful of buyers who’ll be lucky enough to own them.

A Lamborghini spokesperson tells us:

“The Invencible and Auténtica are the very last cars to be produced by Lamborghini equipped with a 12-cylinder 6.5 l engine mounted longitudinally in the rear before the transition to a hybrid era. The final salute to the outgoing Lamborghini V12 powertrain delivers 780 CV and a maximum 720 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm, mated to a seven-speed ISR gearbox, four-wheel drive, and the Lamborghini Dynamic Steering system that controls all four wheels.”

Both cars are built on the same carbon fibre monocoque from the Aventador, and feature full carbon bodywork that borrows design elements from Lamborghini motorsport.

The stunning central triple exhaust system is made from a special high-performance steel alloy derived from the aerospace industry.

The cabin of both cars features a ‘minimalist dashboard’ with 3D-printed air vents.

Meanwhile there’s no instrumentation on the console, which tells you that these are models built predominantly for hooning around a racetrack, not the road.

Stephan Winkelmann, Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and CEO, adds:

“The V12 engine is one of the pillars of our history and our marque’s success. As we head towards embracing a new era of hybridization at the heart of our Cor Tauri strategy, this is the Lamborghini way of celebrating the naturally aspirated V12 with two one-off vehicles that perfectly represent our concept of excellence in personalization.”

You’ll be sure to hear all about the upcoming Lamborghini hybrid super sports car as and when it drops - watch this space!
