Range boost for electric Peugeot e-208

Here’s a fine example of a hand-me-down from a bigger brother - because the Peugeot e-208 has been given the electric motor from its larger sibling, the e-308.

And that sharing of tech means that the e-208’s range has just jumped from 225 miles to 248 miles.

What’s more, you also now get added power from your Peugeot e-208 lease, with an increase of 15 per cent taking things to a max of 156 bhp and 260 Nm of torque.

The e-208 was first launched in 2019 and remains a rival to the Renault Zoe, Vauxhall Corsa Electric and the MINI Electric.

With this new range boost, the updated e-208 now beats all of those alternatives when it comes to maximum range.

The refreshed e-208 also gets a new, more efficient high-voltage battery, with a gross capacity of 51 kWh - up from the previous 50 kWh unit.

The useful capacity of this battery increases from 46.6 kWh on the current model to 48.1kWh, and operates at 400 volts. Not sure how that translates? Take a look at our guide on what kW and kWh really means.

Efficiency is also paramount for the most compact car in the Peugeot range.

A spokesperson for the French firm tells us:

“A heat pump coupled with a humidity sensor installed on top of the windscreen maximises the energy efficiency of the heating and air conditioning. The information transmitted by the sensor makes it possible to control the air recirculation in the passenger compartment more accurately and, ultimately, to preserve the amount of energy contained in the battery when heating and maintaining the temperature inside the vehicle.”

The transmission ratio of the gearbox has been revised to help with range on the road and motorway.

Meanwhile charging remains simple, too. The e-208 supports fast charging at 100 kW, which will take the battery from 20-80% full in just 25 minutes.

The e-208 with the improved range will be available in the UK from early next year.

Whichever way you look at it, the e-208 makes great sense as a lease car - with prices starting from around £370 per month.

Base 'Active Premium+' models come loaded with a 7 inch touchscreen, automatic air con, and driver aids like lane keep assist, programmable cruise control and speed limiter, rear parking sensors and speed limit recognition and recommendation, all as standard.

A spokesperson adds:

“The award-winning Peugeot e-208 has impressed customers since launch with its dynamic looks, on-board technology and driving experience. Its many qualities have made it a huge success with customers: almost 110,000 have been produced since its launch in 2019, but above all, the Peugeot e-208 has been leading sales in the electric B segment in Europe since the beginning of 2022.”

I made a number of enquiries into leasing a car and Select came up with the best deal. I dealt with James Bamber who very helpful in dealing with my many questions. They were very easy and straightforward to deal with and would not hesitate to in using them again. Calls and email answered promptly.
