Lexus is ‘most reliable’ car brand in UK, says survey

Lexus has been named the most dependable car manufacturer in the annual What Car? Reliability Survey - taking home the prize for the third year in a row.

Lexus has long been a byword for reliability, and there’s a great choice of lease cars to choose from right now - from the affordable, hybrid ‘UX’ crossover, to the incoming, all-electric RZ SUV (above).

And now Lexus has topped the What Car? Reliability Survey, which is compiled from a survey of almost 25,000 drivers.

Lexus posted an overall score of 98.4% - incredibly similar to its 2021 score of 98.7% - while Toyota was rated at 97.2%.

What’s more, five of the 10 highest-scoring models in the run-down belong to those two brands.

What Car? editor Steve Huntingford said:

“Everyone is feeling the pinch right now, so unexpected car repair bills are the last thing any of us need. The secret to keeping motoring costs down is to select the make and model of your new or used car carefully. Pick a dependable one and you should have no nasty surprises.
“And you don’t have to break the bank to buy a reliable car, because some of the highest scoring brands sell some of the most affordable models.”

MINI was named the most reliable European brand, while there was a strong showing from two manufacturers who really pride themselves on offering value for money - MG and Dacia - who both made it into the top ten most reliable.

Top 10 most reliable brands (cars up to five years old)

1. Lexus - 98.4% (reliability rating)

3. Mini - 97.0%

6. Suzuki - 95.8%

7. Kia - 95.5%

8. Mazda - 95.2%

9. MG - 95.0%

10. Dacia - 94.4%

When it comes to the most reliable models, the Lexus CT200h and Toyota Auris hybrid were tied in first place in the ‘Family Car’ class with a score of 99.3%.

The Kia Soul was the most reliable small SUV, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Hyundai Tucson shared first place in the large SUV category, and the Nissan Leaf was named the most reliable electric car.

With my previous lease contract coming to an end, I had to find a new lease deal at a time when a lot of my time was taken up with treatment of a couple of health issues. I needn't have worried as Select Car Leasing did all the work to find the car model that met all my requirements at a cost that was well within my budget. They handled all the discussions with the lease finance company, arranged the delivery time I wanted, and quickly resolved the couple of technical snags I encountered when signing off the e-contract documents. The whole process was quick and easy and I can't think of any part of their service that could have been delivered more effectively or quickly.
