- New MINI John Cooper Works models revealed
- JCW variants of petrol hatch and petrol convertible
- Power remains the same as before
- New kit and ‘dialled-up’ suspension
MINI has revealed the new petrol-powered John Cooper Works hatchback and JCW Convertible, with the two models arriving with tweaked styling, uprated interiors, and even more agile handling.
The facelift for the combustion-engined siblings comes just days after MINI announced details of the fully-electric JCW Cooper hatch and Aceman crossover.
Now it’s the turn of the petrol pair.
Both are still powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine and outputs remain the same as previously - 228 bhp for the Convertible and 231 bhp for the hatchback, with torque for both remaining at 380 Nm.
Acceleration times haven’t shifted either, with the JCW hatchback sprinting from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds and the Convertible lagging slightly behind with 6.4 seconds. They both also come with dual-clutch automatic transmission.
So, what’s actually new?
The suspension set-up has been further ‘dialled-up’, according to MINI, which leads to increases in ‘handling ability’.
The exhaust system is brand-new, too. In the past, JCW models got a distinctive centrally-mounted dual exhaust system. That’s been replaced with a single-exit tailpipe for the first time, which is housed in a sculpted black rear diffuser.
It’s a bold change and a departure from what has been something of a MINI staple so it’ll be interesting to see how the purists react.
The interior is clad in a Vescin/Cord combo, there’s a knitted surface on the dash, and the black synthetic leather sports seats have knitted red stitching.
As with the rest of the MINI family, the cabin boasts a high-resolution 24cm circular display that features a new ‘JCW’ mode to give you performance related data including power, torque, engine temperature and a G-Force.
Lease customers will get, as standard, a head-up display, wireless charging, high beam assist, heated front seats, and a Harmon Kardon audio system.
Prices start from £31,200 to purchase outright and we’ll bring you leasing prices as soon as they arrive.
