Looking for a rapid daily driver with the acceleration and precision of a sports car? You need to check out the inbound Nissan Ariya Nismo.
That ‘Nismo’ badge will be familiar to petrolheads.
It refers to Nissan’s performance division (it stands for ‘Nissan Motorsports International’) and it has been slapped on cars like the iconic GT-R and 370 Z while we also recently enjoyed a 218 PS Nissan Juke Nismo and even an electric Leaf Nismo.
We don’t yet know what power the upcoming Nissan Ariya Nismo will have but Nissan is promising track-honed performance wrapped up in a comfortable daily driver.
The Ayria Nismo will do battle with the Kia EV6 GT and Volkswagen ID.4 GTX when it ultimately becomes available to lease.
A Nissan spokesperson tells us: “The Ariya Nismo boasts a lineup of sharp and sporty exterior details and engineering, delivering that signature smooth electric feeling with an added spark from the racetrack. With its Japanese-inspired crossover design, the all-electric Ariya Nismo provides a fluid, aerodynamic performance that reduces drag and generates greater downforce at higher speeds.”
The Ariya Nismo will get a 87 KWh battery and all-wheel drive.
Besides more power and quicker acceleration compared with a regular Ariya, the Nismo model will have high-grip tyres, a new ‘e-4ORCE’ system for better power and torque distribution to the wheels, and uprated suspension.
There are Nismo style flourishes across the exterior and interior and a liberal use of the colour black.
There’s no word yet on when the Nissan Ariya Nismo will arrive but we’ll keep you posted.
