All new Suzuki Swift - full details revealed!

Here’s your brand-new Suzuki Swift hatchback - wearing a sharp suit for 2024 and coming with a mild-hybrid engine that’s now more efficient than ever.

The fourth-gen Swift will be available to lease this April, and we’ll bring you leasing prices as soon as they drop.

To buy outright, you’re looking at £18,699 for the base model - which is roughly on a par with rivals like the Mazda2 and the new MG3 Hybrid, but a chunk more expensive than the Hyundai i10.

Where the Swift has always excelled is in offering an absolute ton of kit as standard, even on the cheapest models. And that trend should continue with this model refresh.

First, though, let’s address the elephant in the room - the Suzuki Swift Sport.

Suzuki’s funky, semi-hot hatch was always a bit of a winner, coming with decent amounts of power (the outgoing version has 130 PS) and more aggressive styling than the regular Swift.

There’s still no official word that the Swift Sport is being retained - but positive rumours persist that a new variant WILL be introduced later this year, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

When it comes to the standard Swift, there are two trim levels - ‘Motion’ and ‘Ultra’.

The entry-level Motion grade gets 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a 9-inch infotainment system with sat nav, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, wireless smartphone link display audio, keyless entry and start, a driver monitoring system, dual-sensor brake support, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition.

That’s a pretty comprehensive suite of equipment by anyone’s standards.

The Ultra level adds extras like upgraded wheels, auto air con, a heater outlet in the rear, and the Ultra Swift will also be available with ‘ALLGRIP’ all-wheel drive later this year.

Powering the Swift is an all-new three-cylinder petrol engine that’s supported by a 12V mild-hybrid system.

With a max power output of 82 PS, the Swift ain’t gonna be winning any drag races - but that’s not really the point. The Swift is about affordable motoring for the masses, and that engine will return up to 64.2 miles to the gallon, which Suzuki says is an 8% fuel efficiency improvement compared with the old Swift.

And then there’s the way that the new Swift looks. A design overhaul has seen it being given a new front grille and sculpted bonnet while blacked-out rear pillars giving the impression of a ‘floating roof’.

A new rear bumper also exudes an air of ‘balanced stability’, says Suzuki.

Chief Engineer, Masao Kobori adds: “The Swift has always been designed to be fun to drive, and the new car is no exception. But in order to respond to peoples diversifying lifestyles, we focused not just on design and driving which have always been Swift strengths – but also on making every aspect of daily life with a Swift more exciting and satisfying. That was the concept that guided our development from the start.”
