This is the new and improved Ford Kuga, coming with quicker acceleration, more sophisticated tech, and sharp new exterior styling.
The Kuga is something of a stalwart of Ford’s range, having been around since 2008, and there are plenty of them on UK roads.
In plug-in hybrid form, the Kuga topped European sales charts in 2021, 2022, and is also on track to triumph above all other PHEVs in 2023.
It’s only natural, then, that Ford would look to make its flagship SUV even more enticing. And this facelift could also be available to lease in a matter of weeks - so watch this space for further updates.
So, what’s new?
The first thing to point out is how it looks. Compared with the outgoing model, the new Kuga gets a brand new face complete with an eye-catching light bar that spans across the entire front end.

It makes for an altogether more purposeful impression, less friendly than before, and more ‘confident’, as Ford puts it.
Also new for 2024 is an ‘Active’ version of the Kuga. In case you’re not familiar with the Ford line-up, the ‘Active’ variants enjoy more rugged, outdoorsy styling, as well as a raised ride height. You’ll find Active models of the Fiesta and the Focus, for example.
And now the Kuga is getting the Active treatment for the first time, which Ford says will be more adept at handling terrain like mud and sand. You can also equip the plug-in hybrid Ford Kuga with all-wheel drive.
When it comes to silent running capabilities, plug-in hybrid models now have an electric range of up to 43 miles while being capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 7.3 seconds - which is more than two seconds quicker than before.
Elsewhere in the range, you’ll still be able to lease the Kuga with either a traditional 1.5-litre petrol engine or as a full hybrid, which is a self-charging unit that doesn’t need to be plugged in.
Inside the cabin you can expect Ford’s latest-generation ‘SYNC 4’ infotainment set-up which offers ‘twice the computing power of the previous system’, according to Ford. Amazon Alex, for example, comes built-in as standard.
The SYNC 4 sat-nav system also lets you punch-in the dimensions of your trailer, if you’re on the tow, so that you can avoid tight turns and low bridges that might otherwise see you come a cropper.
Meanwhile there are also improvements to the Kuga’s safety systems. The adaptive cruise control has been ‘enhanced’ so that it’ll now apply the brakes automatically for curves and junctions, as well as slamming-on the anchors depending on what other drivers are doing.
As before, the Kuga will still feature a sliding rear bench of seats, which lets you find the best balance between legroom in the back and boot space.
Jon Williams, general manager, Ford Blue, Europe, said: “The Ford Kuga has been a hit with customers since it was first launched in 2008. The new Kuga is our best ever, moving the game forward with new levels of capability, connectivity and comfort.”
