Mean and Moody new MINI 'Shadow Edition'

This new MINI has had a mean and moody new makeover - and it’s all gone a bit ‘Black Sabbath’.

Last week we brought you news of the latest MINI facelift, fresh for 2021, with the most notable change coming at the front of the car, where an eye-catching new grille gives the ever-popular go-kart an aggressive snarl.

New vertical air inlets at the front also give the MINI a new sense of purpose.

And now, hot on the heels of that announcement, MINI has revealed bold new ‘Shadow Edition’ versions of both the Clubman and the Countryman.

You’ll find Shadow Editions on Cooper, Cooper S and All4 Plug-In Hybrid engine variants - and they’re available to order now priced from £26,805.

So what do you get for your money, considering the base Clubman in ‘Sport’ trim - on which the Shadow Edition is based - is currently priced from £27,095 - which is more expensive?

First thing to note is the ‘Midnight Black Metallic’ exterior body paint, with contrasting silver roof and mirror caps and a ‘Piano Black exterior’, which MINI says creates a ‘dramatic and streamlined look’.

There’s an exclusive bonnet design, with decals.

And the Shadows also feature 19” John Cooper Works ‘Circuit Spoke’ alloy wheels, as well as John Cooper Works aerodynamic kit including John Cooper Works spoiler, and LED front and rear lights.

Black roof rails are offered as standard to customers selecting the MINI Countryman, and as an option for those choosing the MINI Clubman.

And inside the cabin there’s Anthracite headlining, additional graphics on the dash and treadplates, as well as John Cooper Works sport seats and a sports leather steering wheel with contrast stitching in Chili Red.

The more you look at it, the more you realise the Shadow Edition is a bit of a bargain.

The Shadow Edition comes equipped with the new 5.5-inch Digital Display Cockpit, Bluetooth with USB audio, Rear Park Distance Control, Interior Lights Pack and MINI Driving Modes, allowing drivers to switch between Sport, Mid and Green settings.

A load of other goodies come as standard - the MINI ‘Excitement Pack’, including MINI logo projection and LED mood lighting, and ‘Navigation Pack’, offering an 8.8-inch display with MINI Navigation, Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI), Apple CarPlay and Intelligent Emergency Calling.

And if you want to splash a little more cash, the ‘Comfort Pack’, ‘Comfort Plus Pack’ and ‘Navigation Plus Pack’, which includes Wireless Charging and Head Up Display, are optional extras.

The MINI Shadow Edition is available to order, with first customer deliveries in April 2021.

This is the first car that I have leased. Having spoken to a number of car leasing companies, Chris S provided the best customer service and dealt with the order in a professional, transparent and efficient manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending Select Car Leasing to my friends, family and colleagues.
